I had written this around the time I had first gotten City of Heroes. It's an introduction to my first hero and first 50, Dark Arsenal. I was a little younger back when I first wrote it, so I've done a little editing here and there to help with clarity. The overall story is still the same as when I first wrote it. Constructive criticism is requested and supported. Sorry for the poor structure >.>;
What the? Where am I? Looks like an apartment, this whole place seems unfamiliar. The door slowly opened as a girl peeks her head inside. She had dark brown hair with green eyes. Gotta admit, she’s cute. She met my face with a smile
“Good to see you finally up”
I tried to be polite, “...Thanks. Uh, could you possibly tell me…where I am right now?”
“Paragon”
“Paragon?”
“You know, Paragon City. The City of Heroes?” She gave me a look of inquisition.
“Huh?”
“You must have hit your head pretty hard, most people any place have heard about Paragon.”
I gave here an honest question. “So what’s so great about Paragon?” She met it with an honest answer.
“Well, this city seems to attract super heroes like mosquitoes to a light bulb. You can’t walk down the street without seeing someone in spandex fly past.”
“…” I felt woozy for some reason; it was all a bit much to take in at one time.
“Ugh…Why don’t I go get some coffee? We can talk more about it then.”
I would’ve answered, I blacked out. She must have been right about me hitting my head hard. I had visions, I was strapped to a table with a bunch of…surgeons all around, doing something to my body…can’t make it out though. I could feel the pain. It was immense. After that I see myself and…someone else…running through what looks like an obstacle course: jumping off walls, slicing targets to pieces. That guy…in the white clothes…he looks so…familiar. Once again my brain skips to another part: gunfire met with screams, trying to run away. I look back; the kid in white is on the floor. He screams out something…
“DARK ARSENAL”
I look up to see rubble falling…then I woke up. I was sweating furiously. I stumbled out of bed to once again be met by the lady. She put her hands out and greeted my face with a pair of clothes.
“For you, when we go out to get that coffee.”
I looked at her clock. 8:00pm.
“Sure. Let’s go.”
It was near dark when we made our way out the door.
“The coffee shop is right down the street. I usually go there on my way to work.”
So on our way we went, walking down the street at 8:00, an amnesiac and his babysitter. For some reason I knew something was gonna happen. I could…feel it…in the air. Like some innate sense in the back of my head. I looked behind us; some shady characters were following us…
I acted, “Keep moving…we’re being followed”
I got a quizzical look from her, “Huh?”
“The guy’s behind us…”
“Oh, they’re probably just heading our way. Don’t worry about it.”
I thought about it and nodded. We kept on moving down the sidewalk. But still something was bugging me. I couldn’t get the feeling out of my head that danger was about. I looked back again, the hoods were still following us…then it happened. One of them started into a sprint and grabbed my companion’s purse. What amazes me the most was how fast she reacted. In almost an instant, she grabbed onto the strap with both arms, thus began a tug of war between the thug and the girl. It didn’t take long for conflict to arise.
One of the thugs spoke, “Just give up the purse lady, and we won’t have to hurt you or you boyfriend!”
An enraged look came about her face, “Okay first off, he’s not my boyfriend!! Secondly, I’m not letting go of my purse!!”
“Guess we have no choice then.” He signaled his buddies. One of them pulled out a club, the other a lead pipe, and the third one a knife.
All of this happened, but I was stuck in time. Just watching it all happen…I finally came up to speed.
I spoke, “Excuse me, but I believe this young lady said you aren’t getting her purse. So I’d suggest just moving along before…”
Almost on cue, the thugs turned their attention to me.
“Before what?” The thug grew a smirk on his face, “Seems we have a hero on our hands. Guess we’ll have to make an example…waste him”
They came charging, that’s when it happened. This instinct took over me; I blocked the club with my left arm, met his face with my right fist, and then proceeded to kick the knife out of the other thug’s hand, ending with an elbow to the face. The man with the purse looked in awe at the carnage that had taken place, and the one with the pipe had vanished. Even the young women I was with stood in amazement.
Finally the thug spoke, as he was running away in terror, “You’ve…you’ve done it now! No one messes with the Hellions and gets away with it! You hear me? No one!!!"
I stared him down as he made his way down the block into the alley way. I turned my attention to the young women, who gave me a wry smile, which I responded to with a smile of my own.
When we finally got to the coffee shop, the questions started flying;
“HOW DID YOU DO THAT?”
“WHERE DID YOU LEARN HOW TO DO THAT?”
“ARE YOU A HERO OR SOMETHING???”
All these questions, I only could answer with the shrug of my shoulders.
“I don’t know…I can’t remember”.
Finally she was able to calm herself down and took a seat.
“That was…amazing…I can’t believe it. It all happened so fast, like lightning.”
I shrugged my shoulders again, “Thanks, but I honestly have no idea how that happen or why I didn’t react like that sooner. Everything is still…just a blur…”
She gave a huff and put here elbows up on the table.
“Well, it seems that we have a goal now…”
I gave a look of intrigue…what did she mean?
“We’re going to have to find out WHO you are exactly…and get you signed up.”
“Signed up? For what?”
“Hero Registration” she sipped her coffee, “its starting this week, and it’s lasting till’ the end of the month. You just fill out some paper work and they assign you missions and such…”
The Light bulb went on in my head, “Oooh, I see now. While I’m regaining my memory, I can be making some money.”
“Money? Oh, the heroes don’t make money…”
I gave a look of shock. No money?!?
“…but, they are exempt of taxes and such. Being they are too busy fighting crime.”
A bit of relief came over me. No taxes…heh…
“That’s great, but where am I gonna live? I don’t have anywhere to…”
She blurted out, “ME! Uh, I mean, you can stay with me. You know? Until you find a place of your own.” She started to blush a bit.
So it was settled. I was going to become a hero, live with a pretty girl, all while searching for some clue that would lead my to my memories.
“By the way…My name is Amy…Amy Armada. What’s your name?”
I thought, thought, thought more, and then it happened again
“DARK ARSENAL”
I jumped out of my thought and said it, “Call me…Arsenal…”
