I've found controllers to be the most fun characters to play. I've made many characters, but none I've enjoyed playing so much as my Illusion/ Empathy controller. So here are my thoughts on making a good one.

Although I have picked the empathy power set; my aim is not simply to be a healer. My character has solid attacks and is a decent healer. I am able to help teammates out of sticky situations and rez if needed. I slot my attacks and heals roughly evenly to begin with. If anything I will lean towards attacks and fitness. After all it's not my aim to be the best healer possible.

I love having Invisibility and fly; I can get around without being bothered by gangs where I couldn't before. It gives you so much freedom, you don't have to worry about accidently pulling aggro from tightly packed gangs on route to missions and etc.

Spectral Wounds is a good starting power. it does a great deal of damage, so for the first few levels you can really whizz by often taking guys out in one (or two) shots. You can tear through gangs in no time. I think it's good to put enhancements on that will increase it's recharge time and make it more powerful. If you only put one enhancement on it I would suggest the reduce recharge time one, as it's critical to get the enemies down fast with this move (before they regenerate health). I would only put a few enhancements on this power as I tend to concentrate on getting good healing powers early on, then when thats sorted I can slot up my more powerful attacks.

I haven't gotten very far with my illusion/empathy controller yet, but I find her to be the most fun and effective of all my characters. I like the balance between attack power and empathy power, as well as the greatly useful stealth powers.

I would have to agree with you, I have a lvl 19 Illusion/Empathy Controller and he is a blast to play with. As of right now he has only spectral wounds, invisibility, flash, and phanton army from the Illusion pool. He has several powers from the Empathy pool and that is where the great majority of his slots are as well. Being a controller, I realize that at the early levels at least, it is much more beneficial to concentrate on the Empathy pool and team a lot, since soloing will be a long and hard process at lower lvls.

I also have to agree with you. I am playing a Ill/Emp Controller as part of a duo with my husband's Energy/Rad Defender. She is only lvl 9 at the moment, but already capable of handling most situations. I was worried at first that she would be unable to control crowds, but was pleasantly surprised to find my worries were unfounded.

I particularly like being able to easily scout ahead in door missions (Superior Invisiblity...wooohooo) and reporting back to my partner the situations ahead. Makes door missions alot more fun and allows us to plan our strategies with much success.

My favorite Illusion power though has to be...DECIEVE!! I absolutely love that particular power. Stay invisible, decieve the boss, and then mop his minions with ease as he helps you take them down. *heh*

Playing my Rad/Rad Defender with a friend of mine who was playing an Ill/ForceField Controller, he buffed a high lvl Madness Mage and he gave us Fortitude. That ROCKED!

(I have since successfully decieved a Madness Mage of the CoT and he buffed me while he and I killed his minions. My my that was fun!)

lol, thanks for your comments. I also think decieve is a great power. I like to decieve a few guys before I go into large groups, let them soften each other up.

I fell in love with Ill/Emp controller when I first tried one. I have a duo set up with a friend with him as a Blaster and me the Controller. It works really well since he does good damage and I keep them from attacking him.

Haven't played her up high yet as my buddy doesn't play alot, but I look forward to every time we do.

So after all the other illusion controllers complaining that their powers are awful and thats why their pets are so powerful at 32nd.... i find this a breath of fresh air.

Sorry but i find illusion controllers to be the most over powered class and the complaints on their powers to be foundless. Spectral wounds is near impossible to resist since it is psychic. The number of holds give the illusion controller the ability to not worry about being attacked.. and for all this they gain pets that can summon pets... lets get real people.

I never thought of controllers being overpowered before. I'm still not sure I agree with you either, but it is a good point. Controllers not only have great holds, but great attacks too. Thats also why they're so fun.

I've made an illusion/storm controller, who is yet low level, but totally rocks. The illsion set is so good because few things adequately resist it. I thought it was supposed to be useless againt things with no minds ir clockwork, but I've never had any difficulty taking them down with it...

My illusion controller is low lvl but went kenetics as a 2ndary.

This works great both solo and in groups AND for pets.

Getting things like transfusion...the AOE healage. Siphon power buffing everyones dmg while debuffing the enemy. Those two alone are making it rock.

If your gonna slot spectral with all the recharge reductions...and especially if you add hasten...you might wanna grab a end reducer. Using it that many times means the end reduction will make a differance indeed.


Decieve can not be underestimated EVER.

I dont like illusion control and i have never tried to play with illusion/empathy controller, but that should be fun.
