It was raining. The rooftop was quiet and I can still smell cigarette smoke that was coming from an open window two floors below. I close my eyes and smile. Silence fills my thoughts and in a flash I become just one step outside of what was real. I opened my mind and saw the lives of a few heroes that flew by in silence. A gentle glow comes from my intangible skin. The rain was beginning to pour down hard. I don't smell the smoke anymore-- the rain is cleaning the air.
Too bad the air wasn't what needed cleaning.
I couldn't be touched in my meditation, but I could be seen, and they saw me. I remember seeing a bright blue light slam into the building, passing right through me. I stood up slowly as another blue beam streaked harmlessly into my chest, out through my back and on the wet rooftop. I wasn't going to hurry. I wanted these guys to know what they were dealing with. I stood there and watched them... Sappers. For some reason the Corp seems to think these guys are the best weapon to use against me. I would later realize that these sappers were not sent to find me, they were meant for someone else. It doesn't matter-- Malta have no business in Steel Canyon, so I cleaned up the mess. I have to give them credit for the effort.
I won't bore you with the details of the battle. But I do remember after it was over with, I started to smell smoke again. An open window? No-- this smoke was too thick, to acrid... The very building I was sitting on was on fire. I reacted quickly, taking to the air as it exploded beneath me. I looked down, and saw a crew of Hellions running from the disaster they just caused. I swept down on them like a vengeful demon, tearing each and every one that I could grab limb from limb.
After it was over, I realized a new era had begun. Nothing was safe, nothing was sacred. The Hellions had declared war, and I just happened to be there to see it happen. Years ago, I was awarded a medal for dealing with the Hellions-- that medal means nothing if they are still capable of such destruction. I wasn't made to put out fires, but I do know how to fight. The Hellions will pay for disturbing my peace.
(Just a little bit of fiction from an incident that actually occurred to me on the Test server a while back, I hope you enjoyed it)
