Eons ago, the Gods of the Greek Pantheon battled the Titans for control of the entirety of existence. Shortly after the victory of the Gods is where our story begins...
Although the Titans were imprisoned in Tartarus, many of the young immortals feared that they would escape and return to exact vengeance on their jailors. The most prominent of the Pantheon decided to bring their concerns to Zeus in hopes that he would have a solution to ease their minds. Zeus listened quietly as the Gods explained their unease, and he quickly responded. “We shall create a guardian that will watch over us throughout eternity. This sense of protection will not come without a price. Each of you must give a small portion of your gifts to our champion.” Although they were hesitant to sacrifice a share of their powers to this chosen protector, the fledgling Gods all eventually agreed.
Zeus ordered Hephaestus to mold a creature worthy of the divine task. The lame blacksmith soon returned with a husk forged in the likeness of the father himself. The concerned members of the Pantheon lined up, and each endowed the lifeless warrior with a part of his precious essence. Apollo gave the creature the power to control light. Athena blessed it with wisdom and the ability to bend the minds of others. The goddess Aphrodite granted the protector a passion for his duties, while Artemis gave it a portion of her healing powers. The messenger Hermes donated his speed and the gift of flight. Demeter provided the faculties to control the poisons of her most lethal flora, and Ares strengthened the body with invincibility. The cripple Hephaestus returned with the magical flame from his kiln and placed it in the protector’s hands. Finally, Zeus added the loyalty of a religious zealot and breathed life into the extraordinary being. Thus, The Incarnate, Protector of the Gods, took his place at the gates of Olympus.
