I'm doing this one at my friends house, everyone give him a thank you, but no cookies. He is skinny and should be. Hope you all like chapter 5
Chapter 5
Robyn seemed to be enjoying herself. She screamed happily when I did flips, and laughed when I dropped suddenly, though a few times, it wasn’t on purpose. I managed to recover and play it off though. Through all of this I had us stealthed of course.
“Zin?”
“Yes?” The effort of keeping us flying like this was beginning to get to me, because I had to keep a shield around the both of us to stop the wind, which was much harder than just one person. Me.
“I’m getting kinda cold.”
I didn’t even say anything. I made myself hotter, though not enough to hurt.
“Much better,” she said, smiling
“Anytime.” I said breathing somewhat harder than I normally should. It had to be the effort of keeping us both afloat and heated and shielded. HE couldn’t be around, somewhere. Could he? I had a thought. Could I absorb energy from living things like this? And if so, what’s the distance that I can’t? Is there one?
“Something the matter,” she asked.
“Just, tired is all”
“This happen a lot?”
“Not this fast, it has to be that I’m heating us and shielding us and flying us.”
“Yeah…”
I decided to see how far her knowledge of me went.
“Did you see it when I got unmasked?”
“Yeah, a re-run of it”
I was slightly shocked, they re-ran me being shown to the world here. It was kinda nice.
“So did you see who unmasked me?”
“Yeah,” she said, giving me a confused look.
“I think he’s around here somewhere”
“Why?”
I decided to spill it, it was her life here, she outta know.
“Something’s…sapping me…somehow.”
She looked genuinely afraid.
“How can you tell?”
“I shouldn’t be using this much energy.” I thought for a minute while more energy slipped down the drain. It was getting hard to fly now.
“You remember the guy who showed me to the world?”
“Yesum.”
“I nuked him.”
She widened her eyes.
“That was you?!”
“Yep.”
She seemed shocked. Probably at my power.
“But that takes sooo much power!”
“Yeah, and I’m feeling it now.”
I was beginning to fall, slowly.
“That’s not you trying, is it?”
“No….”
I had an idea.
“Hold on!”
I sped down with what energy I had, hiding us into an alleyway so I could rest without being seen. When we hit firm ground, I let everything I had collapse, the costume, the stealth, the heat, and the shield. I still felt like I was losing power. It had to be feeling weakness from the effort. It had to. Robyn and I exited they alley, beginning the walk to Kim’s home.
“Are you sure she’ll be ok with you staying there?”
“Nope, but it’s the only option I have. I think she’ll be okay with a night or two.”
I hoped she was right. I looked around for something to absorb, but nothing was in the vicinity. I decided to concentrate on what seemed to be sapping me. I found something that had a lot of energy, rapidly growing because of me. I began to take from it what it had taken from me. It seemed to go a lot faster for me than it, whatever it was. I was soon charged from the energy being taken back from it through the ground to me.
I told Robyn this, but she wanted to walk with me instead. I was ok with that, it wasn’t to cold or warm. We went two blocks without anything, and then she asked how I got my powers. I thought for a moment. I already was a fugitive from the Corps, so it couldn’t do any worse.
“From a nuclear plant in Oregon.”
She oooohed and asked for details.
“My friend and I decided to look inside the plant for clues on how to shut it down, or I did anyway. He wanted to see how it worked.”
“What was his name?”
I sighed and said “Zell.”
“Who’s that?”
“The guy who attacked Kim. He used to be my best friend. Then in the plant, he opened the door to the core. We were both filled with radiation of all kinds. I thought he was noble, and sacrificed himself to close the door to it, at risk to more radiation. I guess not. The door closed somehow though. I hadn’t seen him since. Then one night on patrol, I saw a blast come at me, it was from him. Some of this story short, I chased him down to the football arena, where he knocked me out. Everyone on earth saw who I was then. When I came to, I talked to him before realizing the situation. When I did, he had left. I spent the next week trying to get things in order. No one would talk to me. Not even my Ex, Kylia. I was a freak. So I decided to leave and fly where they couldn’t catch me. Closest other country was Canada. On the half a day long flight here, I was attacked by the military. Many times. Mostly by screamers. I managed to get rid of them all without anyone getting hurt, but it was hard. I crash landed into a field and Kim poked me with a stick and woke me up.”
“Wow.”
“Not the best story, but it’s mine. There are many like it, but this one is my own.”
“Full Metal Jacket!”
“You’ve seen that?!”
“HELL YES! I hated it when Pile shot himself.”
“Way too gory.”
At this time, the thing that I was taking back my power and then some from decided it had had enough. It jumped out at us. I pushed Robyn away and got my shields and costume up. The thing came at me. It looked like some kind of bumble bee thing with crackling electricity on it. Simple. I fired kinetic energy at it, and knocked it out. Then a swarm of the damn things came out of nowhere and began firing at me. A few were smart and went for Robyn with there multi colored shots. I jumped in front, got my ground, and made a shield. All the shots bounced off.
I told Robyn to shut her eyes and trust me, rushed them, building up for a blast of light that should blind everyone for a bit. I got to what I deemed was the middle of them, and raised my arms and yelled. Light flooded everywhere, dazzling everyone but me and Robyn. I then built up a charge, and knocked them all senseless and unconscious. I picked up Robyn, and flew us up.
“You can open your eyes now.”
“What did you do?
“I made a bright flash of light to blind them.”
“And were flying?”
“I took my energy back and some extra.”
“We’re gonna be on the news…”
“Ignoring that, would you like to go home instead of Kim’s?
“Sure.”
