Just so you all know, their are like 13 chapters in this part of the story. Altogether in Microsoft word, it took up 22 full pages in SIZE 10 FONT!!!!! Chapter one of the next story took up 4 pages. I’ll be getting up to chapter 9 uploaded today, so you all have some weekend reading.
Chapter 7
I now had to work on getting out of here without blowing my identity to anyone. It was beginning to be a strain to hold so much of a bend of light. I walked quickly on out of the area and into the alleyway, dropped the light bending, and looked around to make sure no one was looking in my general direction. They weren’t. I flew up quickly into the night sky, absorbing light to replenish me as well as make me black. In the dark sky, this wasn’t a bad thing. I faced a new challenge. I had no damn clue where Kim’s house was from here. I flew around looking for the field I had landed in before.
It took 20 minutes at a high speed, but I found it. I landed and stopped the absorption. I heard a branch on the ground snap behind me. I felt him before I even knew what I was doing, leaping away that is. He rushed right beyond me.
“Always the worse, eh Zell?”
He said nothing, but acted like a bull whose ass was on fire and came right at me. I charged myself with plasma, ready to burn him down, and charged back. We met, and grappled, right near a tree. I decided now was the best time if ever to try this idea out. I made fire. Around me, like a shield, but it was fire, so it was hot. I then remembered he can absorb energy like I can. I went all out, using electric, kinetic, sonic, nuclear, wind, hydro, everything I had at my disposal I used. When I was done, he was gone, with a smoking charred bit of ground where he was. I was exhausted. That was worse than a nuke and insanely as hard to do. I began walking back to Kim, almost dead on my feet.
I arrived soon, and knocked. She answered after a 20 second wait. It was 19 too long for me at the moment. When she opened the door, it was all I could do not to collapse on the floor.
“Zin?”
I mumbled something I didn’t even understand and went straight to the couch. I fell into its warm and cushy embrace. Concentrating, I began to speak.
“Kim? Robyn’s fine.”
“What happened?”
“I fought him.”
“And you….”
“Did worse than a nuke. I used everything I could without dieing.”
She was quiet. If I were more awake, I might have noticed she didn’t like fighting. As it happens, I didn’t blunder that part.
“Was he there?”
“There was only charred and blackened dirt, with a small crater.”
“Do you think he got away somehow?”
“I’ll check tomorrow…or whenever I wake up.”
She seemed a little disappointed, so I cudgeled my brain for something to take that away.
“Maybe tomorrow, I could take you somewhere. No fighting, no HIM, just you and me, I have some spare cash.”
“That sounds like a lot of fun, I’ll think of where to go.”
“G’night Kim”
“Good night Zin.”
Sleep, oddly, did not come as easy as I had thought it would. Far too much was on my mind. For starters, how were my parents doing? I hope the cops weren’t harassing them too much. I wondered if they missed me, I didn’t think too much. My thoughts drifted to the days events. I had met a very nice girl, fought some bumble bee things, and met a nice girl. My thoughts were somewhat surprised at themselves, for she was only a friend. I figured it was the night and tiredness seeping down on me. As my body recovered itself, ever so slowly, I was actually becoming more awake than sleepy. I must have been turning the air into energy. I got up, dizzily, walking around. The house was very nice, with three floors, a basement, ground, and upper level. I decided to go see what Kim was doing. While tip-toeing, I was still a kid, and not ashamed to do this, I noticed a clock. It was 1 AM. I doubted Kim would be up, but I was going to see anyway. Making my way up the stairs to the upper floor, I noticed her door slightly ajar. I peeked inside.
Kim was on her desk, with what seemed to be a book in her hands, and a piece of paper with some writing on it. My guess was the book was a diary, and the paper I had no clue. I hovered over to her, and looked in the book. I couldn’t help myself, what I could see read “He came back fi…” then her face cut it off. It picked up a little later, “I think he’s a…” and it cut off again. Damnit! Now my curiosity was piqued. I looked over at the paper, while Kim began to snore slightly. It was the day’s plans for us. Nothing as interesting as a girl’s diary at the moment, but she had many erasing on it. Probably trying to plan something to keep me entertained. I was going to blow that idea out the window, so to speak. I was going to do what she wanted to anyway, so nothing else seemed to matter. Through this, the night was finally catching up to me. It has a tendency to do that, no matter how fast I move. I swayed on my feet, as I have done staying up late at night playing numerous video games. My thoughts drifted from the present to a memory. It was me, staying up and shorting myself sleep and meals to try and catch a very important gang member. He had, in cold blood, murdered my very close friend, because she had taken a few drugs from him, and didn’t pay. I wasn’t feeling tired at the time, but after I found him and effectively “arrested” him, I found it catching up to me quickly. When I say that I “arrested” him, I also accidentally turned him into a reformed god fearing citizen of the city. Some things couldn’t be helped, like his trip to the hospital for two months for an injury no reason could explain.
I shook myself back into the present, almost waking Kim. I stopped, barely breathing. She mumbled something that sounded like a little laugh, and sank back down. I would have sighed, if I wasn’t almost sweating. I grabbed the blanket from her bed, and very carefully set it onto her. As I hovered out of the room, she began to whimper. I looked back, and saw her with her head in her hands, making quiet, sad noises. My guess is she was still asleep, so I hovered back over to her, ready to wake her if it got too bad. It got worse, and she took a gasp and whimpered it out. She took another, and I put my hand on her shoulder. She woke slowly. In her daze, I take it that she didn’t have full sober judgment, because she jumped right in my direction. I grabbed her in mid air, for that is what the Corps trained me to do, however, her momentum made her slip through, and collide with me. She put her arms around me, still shaking. I did the only thing my tired and surprised brain could think of, I hugged her back, not letting go. After about 20 seconds, she seemed to wake up and realize what she was doing. She looked up at me, her eyes wet, but not leaking. She opened her mouth, I only shushed her, and held her closer. She put her head onto my shoulder, and relaxed. Heroes seem to have that effect on girls.
