I remember the avalanche of rock and dirt falling on me. Feeling as if I was going to be buried alive. Wondering if I would ever see my son again. Watching him grow up, seeing the kind of man he would grow up to be. Wondering if he would ever be like his father is... A costumed hero fighting villains in Paragon City. To be honest fighting the villains would be preferable to these aliens. What are these things... they came out of nowhere. I hope that the call from Statesman to fight them was heard by everyone. Then things can get back to normal...
As the man sat up, he noticed his surroundings were different then anything he had witnessed before. He looked at his clothes and noticed that they were not his. These were black and a dark purple, where his were blue and white. Before he could even think, he heard a voice from across the room.
"Those are your new clothes Paragon Ghost." The voice came from a woman sitting in the shadows. She moved closer to him. She had white hair with white skin except for black circles surrounding total black eyes. She was dressed all in black with some areas that were streaked white. The man looked at her with a sense of wonder. She was beautiful in a way that he could not pin down. Yet there was a sadness about her that was all too apparent. Suddenly her words dawned on him.
"Paragon Ghost? I am called The Lunar Ghost. Who are you? What am I doing here?"
"I am known as Ghost Widow. I am second only to my master Lord Recluse in the ranks of Arachnos. You are to be my consort. You will be by my side to help my master rule."
"I think you have me mistaken for someone else." The man tried to get up and soon realized that he was never lying on a table, but was floating the whole time.
"You are like me now. Not alive, but not dead. I discovered your spirit in some wreckage of one of the battles with the Rikti. I had your spirit released from that dark prison to be by my side. This life can be a lonely one when you are not like anyone else. With this new life you have new powers as well. But we can talk about that another time."
"I am....dead? No my son, my wife....I just saw them this morning before the attack."
"Your wife has been dead for many years now. She was a casualty of the Rikti attack. Your son has followed in your footsteps as the new Lunar Ghost. That life you lived is not yours anymore. You belong to me now."
With so many things swirling through his mind, the man screamed and shot off into the air and passed through the structure that was holding him. He hurled himself until finally resting in the area of Paragon City known as Croatoa. He sagged to the ground not knowing what to do with this new life.
What has happened to me...my family, my world? Everything I knew is gone. What is there in this life for me? I was a hero....it is who I am....
As if needing some sign to show him the way, he noticed his hand touching the ground where he laid. He could feel parts of the blades of grass. When he tried to grab some of the grass his hand passed through the grass and into the ground. He quickly jerked his hand back and tried again. This time he concentrated and touched the grass with a firm grip. He tried to touch other things. Quickly he learned that he was not totally helpless. Suddenly he felt a feeling in the back of his hands as metal claws sprang from the knuckles of each hand. He looked and realized they were not really metal in what you would think but a mystical equivalent of the actual thing. What other powers did he posses in this new body?
I will continue my fighting of the criminals that inhabit this city. If nothing else to uncover what happened to me. But I can no longer use the name of The Lunar Ghost. My son had taken up that identity. Maybe some day I will be able to converse with him, and let him know that I never stopped caring about him. But that will have to wait. I shall now be known as The Paragon Ghost. I will learn about this new world, and I will make my place in it.
And with that the adventure of The Paragon Ghost began. A journey that is only just beginning. To be continued in the exciting game City of Heroes.
