Yaz-Min was the name she had been given at the celebration of her 10th planetary cycle. In her native tongue it meant “Controller of the Forces”. She, like her parents before her, had the ability to control the very forces of gravity. Her family were the leaders of the construction teams that built and maintained the structures on Incron-6. Each family had unique powers specific to their assigned task on the planet. If an offspring did not develop abilities they were sent to live with the common population.
Life was good on Incron-6, even for the common people. Everyone lived in peace and there was no want. Those with special abilities were not looked at as superior but as an intricate part of the survival of the planet. The government was not off in an ivory tower making laws that didn’t effect them, instead they were part of that circle were each relies on the other to survive.
On Incron-6 there was no greed, no jealousy, and no corruption. Unfortunately, for Yaz-Min, there was also no excitement. Sports and entertainment were all held on a virtual playing field. The physical aspect and danger had been removed to give all the opportunity to be involved and compete on a level playing field. Yaz-Min was often found out climbing on the rocks behind the dwelling, running through the woods and exercising. She was preferred these physical activities over using technology and the virtual world. She would rather experience the pain, excitement and personal achievement from doing the tasks manually. It was not uncommon for people to feel this way, but they usually grew up and matured and accepted the position on the planet.
It was during her 17th planetary cycle, when her life started to change. She spent her youth in the ancient archives, delving into the logs of the various exploratory space probes that were sent out long ago. She came across a log from a probe that many didn’t even monitor anymore. It was deemed that this planetary system held no educational value due to the primitive behaviors still exhibited by the species. The 3rd planet in orbit around a small yellow star held a species that few believed would ever survive for very long. The logs stated this planet was called Earth.
This species was a savage species were peace did not long reign. When the opportunity to give or take presented itself, someone would often continually take until killing resulted again. What really captured Yaz-Min’s attentions were these few individuals that seemed to put others needs ahead of their own. They seemed to care when most others looked the other way. She also notice many of them exhibit abilities similar to those on her planet. Unfortunately, so many used them for their own personal gain and not for the good of the planet and its survival. There were a few that looked at their powers as a responsibility to serve those that didn’t have the powers. These are the ones that intrigued Yaz-Min.
She began to spend more and more time watching these logs and researching each of the individuals that went beyond what was expected of them. One afternoon everything changed. She was at the console when the Rikti invaded the Earth. She watched as behaviors changed. Those that were indifferent to the plight of others suddenly came together with those that stood to defend the initial onslaught. Personal gain was gone, planetary survival became the battle cry. Over the next months she watched the “heroes” prevail, but at a very high cost. Her heart went out to this species, how they suffered and yet hope prevailed.
After the “war” ended the rebuilding process began. She saw pride and determination in the people. A spark of hope was in their eyes. Yaz-Min wondered if this was going to be the catalyst that brought their world together and paved the way to change.
It started well, but unfortunately greed and power was still to powerful a temptation. Groups started claiming areas as their turf and crime and chaos started to rise. There were few “heroes” left to stand against those that desired power at any cost. That is when Yaz-Min made her choice. Something needed to be done. Someone needed to show them what a world without greed could be like. Someone had to spark the fire of compassion in the hearts of the people again. Yaz-Min made her way to the transportation center. She had investigated the idea of stellar jumping, but wasn’t sure if she could reach all the way to Earth or not, but she had to try. The controller at the portal controls looked with apprehension when she explained where she was jumping to. “I’m not sure that we can reach that destination safely”, he said.
“I have to try, they need support. I can’t stay here when I have the ability to aid them.”
The controller nodded and began powering up the Jump Portal. He gave Yaz-Min the signal and she stepped in the glowing circle. It quickly rose up and engulfed her in energy. The controller raised an eyebrow and silently watched as the beam of energy shot in space...
