Issue 12

The Midnight Squad

JOIN THE MIDNIGHT SQUAD (LEVELS 10 - 20)
The clandestine organization of mystics, scholars and mages, known only as the Midnight Squad, seeks to rebuild its numbers since the devastating assault of the Rikti Invasion. The Midnighters hold a secret that could bring the alien assault to an end, but without the help of the Heroes of Paragon City™ it will remain Lost forever.

NEW ROMAN-STYLE ZONE MAPS (LEVELS 35 - 50)
The Midnighters hold many secrets within their walls, including a highly coveted Ouroboros crystal, enabling them to travel to the far reaches of time. There is a familiar threat in an ancient land and the Midnighters need the help of both Heroes and Villains to stop it. Players step foot upon the ancient land of the Roman Cimeroran Peninsula, where they battle deadly creatures, defend an ancient city and ultimately come face to face with the enemy of time itself. Throughout this journey players uncover the mysteries of power and the origins that guide them today.

UNLOCK ROMAN-STYLE ARMOR COSTUMES
Through their accomplishments, players unlock the new Roman themed armor costume set.


Villain Epic Archetypes

Infiltrate the Arachnos organization from within! Upon reaching level 50, Villains unlock two new Epic Archetypes; Wolf Spiders and Blood Widows. They have their own unique storyline and missions, power combinations and costume sets. Branching powersets allow the Wolf Spider to specialize as either a Bane Spider or Crab Spider and the Blood Widow chooses from the Fortunata and Night Widow branches. Each brings with it unique costumes for your Arachnos duties, as well as your newfound role as a Destined One.




Powerset Proliferation

Using his newly built Resonance Manipulator, the Villain scientist known as Dr. Brainstorm™ has discovered a way to alter the energy strands which connect every Hero and Villain to their powers. This discovery has not only opened the door to new powers for his fellow Villains in the Rogue Isles™, but has also done the same for the Heroes of Paragon City ™! Specifically, new characters of almost every Hero and Villain archetype gain access to an additional primary and secondary powerset that they didn’t have access to previously. Details to come!


Hollows Zone "Gameplay Makeover"

Significant changes have been made to the Hollows zone to make it more fun! NPC encounters have been rebalanced, including new spawns, new villain groups, mission door improvements, and a mobile hospital has been added to the entrance of the zone. Additionally, Meg Mason, a new contact, has been added to give out repeatable missions.


Major Gameplay Improvements

* Eight configurable new power trays let players customize their User Interface by placing them anywhere on the screen.
* Contact display redesign: Contacts are now listed separately as Active and Inactive, and players can sort contacts by a range of criteria including Name, Zone, and Level Range.
* Inspiration Conversion: Right click an inspiration to convert three of that kind into any one inspiration of another kind.
* Level Up Boost: Upon reaching enough XP to level up (at all levels), one of each type of large inspiration is immediately cast upon your character, and health and endurance bars are immediately filled.
* Chat improvements: Right click on character names in chat window to ignore, add to friends list, invite to team, etc. Drag any item (enhancement, inspiration, salvage, etc.) into the chat window so that you and others can click a hotlink to view the complete info box.
* More Real Numbers: Players can now display stats on powers before they choose them enabling more informed power selection and new temporary powers allow players to display enemy stats.

Yes, I read that. Looks like NCSoft is really trying to make us happy. That's just about everything everyone has been screaming for over the last couple of years. More powers, villain epic AT's, new costumes, new zones, revamping hollows, etc. Definitely gonna keep my interest.

I am very intrueged by these new powers or power modifications...or however Dr. Mindbender...I mean Dr Brainstorm has happened upon.

Does this mean some sort of Pick and choose option of various Main and Secondary powers?

WOW, now that is an impressive issue. I'm super stoked for the power proliferation and the contact organization and the linkable items and the villian epics and... well almost all of it. Aside from power color choice, this is almost everything I've always wanted. I'm not too overly excited about the level up boost, that seems a bit excessive, especially if it is a large inspiration. Perhaps one large, or even one small used at random would be nice... but every kind of large? Talk about invincible for 90 seconds.

This power proliferation thing has definitely caught my interest. Could this be that skill idea that the devs had mentioned way back when? Somewhat like the talent trees for wow? Anything that lets me have a further level of individuality is number one a-okay to me.

The way I'm reading that is we're just getting new powersets for MOST of the AT's, not anything special like pick and choose. Just new sets.

Personally I'd like to just see something like all the scrappers secondaries as tank primaries. Can you imagine a SR or regen tank? Same thing as scrapper but 20% more effective, which IIRC is the difference between the tank and scrapper sets. How about Rad blast on a blaster with the increase there? All of that wouldn't even require a rewrite of the game. All the graphics and numbers are there already. That would be fun!

when i read about villain epics, it was like deja vu. Seriously i was talking to my friend about epics a while back, and those exact things came up in our conversation. i cant wait to try them out. i also think all that roman stuff is gonna be awesome, especially the roman costumes.

I don't think its new powersets, it seems to be saying an augmentation to the existing sets that leads to new abilities within that set. Of course, I could be wrong, but it does appear to be something retroactive (existing and new characters alike can utilize).

Edit: On second glance, you may be right Starwolf, it does say new characters.... thats not as interesting but still fun, perhaps they should add a couple more character slots with all these new powers on the incoming?

As for the scrapper sets becoming tank sets, I think that would greatly detract from the whole archetypal system that the game is founded on. Certain archetypes should have exclusive sets to persuade people to choose that type specifically for that set.

Actually as I read it it will just be new power sets (the announcement specifies that new heroes and villains will have them), albeit a whole slew of them. From the pics on the official site, it looks like plant control will be a new option for controllers.

We also have
  • 2 new time travel related zones
  • some welcome improvements to the Hollows
  • epic villain archetypes
  • an improved contacts listing
  • new costume pieces
  • something new and interesting to do with inspirations
  • no moon base!!!!111 Epic phail!!11 (Just kidding!)


Looks like an impressive expansion from the NCSoft folks.

As for clawed brutes per Stoker, I 100% agree on one condition. We get monstrous arms and the claws are finger blades. I so very badly want to make a monstrous villian, but with the long monstrous legs and scary faces... then the tiny little human arms, I just can't bring myself to look at that kind of abomination. Hehe, monstrous arms for the win!

thats very good news. IF mm get emp, ill have to remake one, but i think that would make them TOO powerful. might be kin. or perhaps a new set altogether??? but probably not.

I would be happy with a few more pet choices....what about being able to use the Pirate Costume option with a crew of the damned seas. Or maybe, this would be scary, CLOWNS! I would wet myself in fear from a posse of demented clowns. Oh, oh...what with you were a mind controlling MM and you gained control of a few Rikti? Huh...think about that.....It would even be nice to make your thugs after some of the exsisting enemies (ie: Hellions, Skulls, or such), maybe your robots after clocks. I think you get the point.

But what does this mean for MMs? Does this mean a Fire MM? I assume Controllers are the opposite of MMs. Maybe a Robot Controller?

Its already said that controller will get plant control. and I have read each set is getting one primary and one secondary.( or is hat theorized?)But i have read on the villain topic, posi said MM are forfeiting there primary so brutes can get two primaries. but i think that MM's should still be getting a secondary. Fire would be kinda cool shields and all, guess well have to wait and see.

hmm, it just hit me each at is getting at least one new power choice. then i thought what are stalkers gonna get? electrical melee or maybe invulnerability? just a thought

Maybe a rad melee/control. Kinda like Elec Control only Defence debuff rather than stamina.
