Mind Control Rocks

I have an Empathy/Mind Control Controller and after making him, I was bombarded with the opinion that Mind Control Controllers are worthless. I am here to say that Mind Control is pretty dang cool. My usual technique so far, I'm only level 10, is to confuse the biggest non-Boss foe, then sleep the others while using my other attacks to take the foes one at a time. While the XP isn't usually 100% of the win, I tend to do okay on the Solo side. My regret was not grabbing the mass sleep, but I plan to remedy that at 12.

Re: Mind Control Rocks

it is good to hear that there is a controler out there that can actually solo b/f lvl 30..... i may have to make one b/c my fire/emp controler is hopless unless she has someone w/ her... can't even do her missions b/c they take soooooooo long (woo hoo 12 pts of damage!!!)

i do like the confuse, a friend of mine's fav thing to do is to play w/ the dead... he confuses the morts, they attack the cadavers, kill them, rez them, kill them again.... he says he could spend hours just doing that..... it is a pretty funny sight to see.

playing with the dead

a good trick ym buddy found and i use against the deadites, is to confuse the embalmed cadavers, they blow themselves up at their teammates making my job alot easier.

Hummm,

Yes, Whimcycle was a Fire/Emp controller. Thru dilligant work I managed to get him to 19th level after 6 months. Starting in December, I re did him as an Ill/Emp controller. By the end of the month he was 20th level. Fire/Emp are VERY team dependant until they hit the magical 32 and get their Fire Imps. After that, clear the decks!

Re: Mind Control Rocks

My main is a Level 37 Mind/Emp. I must admit, there were many frustrating times that I needed a team to play. However, I have soloed before hitting 32, heck, well before I even had a travel power, on my mishes. I respecced recently and focused more on my empathy side. Plus, I dropped the confuse power entirely on my level 24 respec because I personally found it useless.

Mass confusion, however, is great to get out of a nasty group brawl.

I'm glad to hear there are other mind/emp controllers out there. I've only run into 3 others since I started playing in August.... we're a rare breed...

Nope. You're still stuck with the same powersets with the respec, you just get to repick the powers within the set and re-place your enhancement slots (and enhancements).

Re: Mind Control Rocks

People say mind control sux but we both know it doesn't before lvl 32. Only diff being all other controllers get pets then and Mind control doesn't. Personally i like mid control and excuse me but confuse is one of the MOST usful powers in the game. If a group looks too strong i usually confuse the boss...thats right...the boss. IF he is 2 lvls up he takes like 2 swings and reverts but i got a casting rythm :P. he takes out 2-3 guys then we roll em OR as soon as i control him we whale on him and kill him so boss is outa the way. However I do wish that mass confuse was just another power and we could get a pet too. Since we have mass confuse maybe just make the pet a lil weaker? Oh well. I can still telekenesis enemies off the building and let them drop :P

Good point! My controller is very useful before i would go into a zone and get murdered but with Mass confuse...if a mob shows up outta nowhere BOOM...they're out like a light! its a great power to have and comes in handy!

However i lose endurance! that has always been my problem...i have stamina but what else can i do to sustain my endurance?!

Re: Mind Control Rocks

I have a mind control/bubble char on Infinity (Chalk, lvl 21) that I think rocks the house! I have been able to solo mishes for quite sometime, but it takes longer due to less damage dealt. I simply prefer to play in a group, because she truly shines there. As any tank with a brain can tell you, it sure is easy to beat someone up when they can't remove their hands from their heads! And you accidentally aggroed an extra group of baddies? No problem. Sleepy time! I also have tp and stealth, so on difficult mishions or in TF's when you want to cut down time, I work my way to the objects of the mishions and get everyone there to finish quickly. And don't get me started on bubbles! They just plain rock.

My only question is this... what do you all think of Telekinesis? I skipped it because when it became available I was about to get my travel power and I thought, "why would I need to make an ally fly? They should have their own travel power, and I can tp them there anyhow." But I had a guy who couldn't believe that I didn't have it, and told me I should. Thoughts? Opinions?

Re: Mind Control Rocks

I would love to hear from people who have this power and use it. Even with the new description, we are not talking about damage or anything. And knockback is the bane of tanks and scrappers who are my biggest "clients" so to speak. Even though it would be nice to be able to keep someone out of the battle with this, I could do it with a hold without continously spending end and without having my teamates chase him down. Anybody?

I have Telekinesis power for my lvl 27 Emp Mind Controller and it does come in handy. There were times when i was soloing and too many were being aggroed so i used that power and not only did it hold them from no longer being able to attack me but it made them fly back far enough away from me for me to make my escape. I know a hero should never back out of a fight however this hero sometimes bites off more than she can chew.

Re: Mind Control Rocks

I recently hit 41 on my Mind Control, and had to choose from the EPP pool.

Ok, this was not a simple thing.

I have chosen the powersets on my toon mainly as a team-oriented character, although I can hunt solo. It just takes an enormous amount of time.

So thinking, I decided to take an offensive power in the "Fire Mastery" pool. So far, the Flare-type attack has been nice; one more fairly strong blaster attack to add to my arsenal.

However, I was really psyched by the Psionics field; I don't like the psionic attack offered, but the defense options rocked (against psionics, hallejulah).

Any thoughts on if you can dip into more than one pool? I will just have to respec if I can't, but I know you can get like 4 of the other Power pools (can't think of the name... fly, etc). Anyone know the answer?

BTW: Telekinesis, the first time I saw it in action was the other night on a defender that had taken the ability as part of his EPP. I can see how throwing an enemy, or group back could be useful, but it seems a bit silly to me. I mean, each to their own, but I would rather damage them someway, or strengthen my other holds. As it stands, that would be three attacks that a MC has, with NO damage. Which really irks me. I wonder if they'll ever get around to adding time damage to TD?

Also, does anyone have thoughts on Terrify? I never took it, and I'm wonder what the damage is like.

Re: Mind Control Rocks

I have a 30 Mind/Emp Controller I ROLEPLAY on Justice. Occasionally I will get the snide comment, "how's that working for you?" or the more direct, "MC's suck, you don't get pets." How many X-Men have pets? That Prof X... what a wuss...

I am here to say that I love playing her. Most of her powers are for team play so I am forced to play in teams. The game is so much more fun that way. Put me with a scrapper and we are very very deadly.

The other thing that bothers me is when people ask where all my telekenesis powers are. The fact is that she isn't telekinetic! Please role play, people! And understand that not everyone plays the way you play!

Thanks for letting me rant. I feel so relieved! Now to bag me some Crey...

I started a MC/kinetics troller... It seems to be a lot of fun. Actually, a few people in my SG had lows that had repel and were playing 'catch' so i wanted to join. Then, it turned out to be too much fun. So now he's 14. and repel is stil really fun... hope it ends up being useful :P theres always a respec.

About Telekinesis: worth getting? i heard you can use it to push a huge group into a corner, for more effective herds, but other than that it seems like an end. hog and a tanks worst nightmare- throwing the baddies every which way lol.

Re: Mind Control Rocks

I have a lvl 20 Mind/Kinetics Controller on Triumph named The Maniacal One.

Powers: Levitate, Dominate, Telekinesis, Mass Hypnosis, Transfusion, Repel

Some of you here have asked if Telek is worth getting, I can certainly tell you that it is worth getting indeed.

First off, Telekinesis is NOT Repel. It's not anything like it. What Repel does is create and energy field around your body that propels enemies away from you, knocking them down in the process. So in essence, it requires you to touch the enemy.

TK can be used from a distance, so it's a ranged power. What it does is take the foe you have targeted, and lift him in the air and slowly send him backwards until he either hits a wall or corner or if you are outdoors, he just keeps going backward. However, here's the cool part, he also takes any enemies within roughly a 15 foot radius he comes near back WITH him, thus allowing you to hold an entire mob hostage up against a wall.

How is this useful you ask? Well, for starters, by holding a mob back, you can allow the rest of your group to focus on Bosses/Leuitenants while you hold the minions back. Also, you can help your team get out of a jam in quick fashion by holding people back while your teammates reqroup or run away to rest. Another use for this is in small groups, lets say 4 or less, where you don't have a lot of firepower, you can effectively have ANY combination of archetypes and still do tough missions because you allow your team to take their time doing damage and killing foes while you hold off mobs. For example, just last night I started Synergy's Task Force with a group of 8, 2 Def, 2 bla, 1 tan, 2 scr, and me. After the 5th mission, we were down to 2 Defs, 1 Bla, and me. Not much for doing a Task Force you would think right? Yet we finished 4 more missions before we had to leave for RL reasons, and NOONE DIED. Yes it took a bit longer, but primarily by using Telekenisis (and mass hypnosis), we were able to SMARTYLY play through the missions and we all lvld up twice thanks to kick butt XP.

So for those of you wondering about TKnesis, it rox0rz your b0x0rz :-)

but telekinisis sounds like a lot of fun... have you tried it with a group of mobs on a roof top?

The great thing about controllers it theres endless ways to play them and most of them rock! Look at all these great ideas! And thay all work! I use some of them myself.

My second character was a mind controller because I kept getting my ass kicked by Madness Mages so I knew it would be powerful! After that i was stuck on controllers!

Re: Mind Control Rocks

I have a lvl 27 Illusion/kinetics controller that seriously rocks. I was able to effectively solo at 20 with Phantom Army, a couple effective holds in Flash and Blind, and the ability to self heal and buff with Transfusion. Now with Hasten 6-slotted, Stamina 6-slotted, and Spectral Wounds 6-slotted and Phantom Army 6-slotted with accuracy/damage/damage/damage/recharge/recharge, i can solo groups of lvl 30+ and run missions solo. In a group, i can thrive with Blind, Flash, Sectral Terror, and do double duty healing with Transfusion, and buffing with SPeed Boost and Increase Density. All in all, my favorite toon to date.

Re: Mind Control Rocks

ok I'm acutally gonna build a mind controller after seeing what they do at high lvls. it's quite impressive.

But this is the one reason that I think people call them gimped... they really can't solo well. yes they can do it, just like my ill/emp could before her pets, but it's long and boring. Mind trollers are the best hands down at clocking down a mob. I've seen a lvl 50 mind compared to my lvl 50 ill, compared to a lvl 50 ice... and you know who won... well it sure wasn't me. ;)

they are meant for team support, they're almost a defender, but not quite. So, when I build mine, I've got a friend who's gonna make a scrapper, and we're gonna go through together, me and my mind troller, him and his BS scrapper.

but I agree mind control rocks... it's just not what people expect of a troller, they expect pets. :)

Re: Mind Control Rocks

There is a reply further up asking what everyone thinks of Telekinesis.

Everybody who likes Telekinesis, please excuse this, but I think it is one of the most USELESS powers I have ever had the displeasure to even know the function of. It just makes enemies float away, and even at a 4 slot full of endurance reduction, it still manages to reduce all of my endurance to nothing in about 30 seconds. I mean, WHY would you even bother with a power that makes the enemies float away like pixies at the cost of your entire endurance bar?! It still makes no sense to me.
