I was looking for a team in Hollows on a lvl 5 kinetics defender alt I have, when I saw a controller next to a big group of mobs, with his heal around 1/2. So I walk over, pop a heal and a siphon power.
Expecting a 'ty' or 'thanks' or something, I was a little shocked when I heard what I did.
"&*%$ off! Do I look like I need your help noob?"
I tryed to explain that although my powers were targeted at the villian, they didnt actually do any damage, and therefore I wasnt taking exp, but all I got was.
"I don't care, I can heal myself. Was I dying, no. So go away! Geez!"
I just stood there, stunned as the guy ran away to the next group. Granted he was doing ok, but was his tone really necessary? If I hadn't got my heal in I'm not sure how long he would have survived.
It's this kind of behavior that persuades me not to even bother with my lower level alts.

I try to be helpful with all of my toons and I've learned to except the rude/insulting behaviour some players exhibit from time to time. The ratio seems to be about 20 thank yous for every 1 *%^$# kill stealer. Pretty good odds.
Sometimes the other player has no idea how much trouble they are really in. I saved this scrapper once from an outcast boss several levels above him (he was 12, the boss was 16, I was 22). He had a tiny sliver of life left and was stunned in place. I zoom in with my defender. Heal him, clear mind, recovery aura, heal again, and stick with him until he wins the fight. As soon as it is over I get cursed out for interfering. He can take out a boss, he doesn't need anybody, and kill stealers are scum. *sigh* So I hit the ole superspeed and get away from him post haste.
Funny thing is, the next day I get a tell from the guy asking me to join his team 'cause they need a healer bad.

Sad to say this is a fact of life on just about every, if not all, online games.
Just do what I do when I play my healer...drive by healing, blast them health and then motor on your way. It's less annoying because you've given them enough of a chance to run for cover, if they stay to finish and still end up floor snoring, that's their fault not yours. I don't think it's a bad attitude to have, you're still playing the healer (and getting some points to your healing badge) and still getting the satisfaction of helping someone out who needed it, whether they say they do or not.
It sounds like the person in question has a few 50s under their belt so they have lost the fear of falling at the low levels (I do this all the time now...tank with a controller!), but, it still doesn't justify his/her attitude.

Well, far be it from me to be the pyschoanalyst, but I think the people who say these kind of things may do so for a few big reasons:
Firstly, out of game struggles, issues, that sorta thing. It really can't be helped, sometimes you come on the game to vent stress or whatever, and maybe you end up doing it in a way that's not so productive. It happens.
Secondly, maybe the person has had some bad past expierience with Kill Stealers or the like, and (although we healers were only trying to heal) he spots you running in and its just one more annoying chap running into his fight in his eyes. So he blows his top without really thinking it through.
Basically, I'm not saying we should excuse his or any other players rudeness, but nor should we hoist too much blame on them without realizing that there is most likely a context to their scalding comments. As often as I hate to have somebody get pissy when I jump in to lend them a heal, I just superjump away. Don't let what is seeminly a random act of maliciousness ruin your gaming expierience. If you can take it in stride, then you can continue to help others without fear of reprisal.

I find most online games (well, RPGs anyway) a way of recieving stress not venting it sometimes! The last time I had a problem like this a level 50 from the SG took interest and came over to the Hollows and gave the guy a talking to! Some friends, who were in the team at the time (we all made new characters for a bit of fun) thought I should have reported him, but there is no point in wasting a moderator's time on people like him.

I disagree. Someone like this probably behaves this way habitually in-game. If there were more than one complaint against him, I'm sure the game moderators would take notice. Not reporting it means he can continue to behave that way.
Edit: This is not to say I go around reporting people for every little infraction. I don't. But I would if another player cursed at me like that.

I think I have teamed with this guy (If I am making a mistake, I am very sorry). If I'm not mistaken, his level 50 is known as 'The PLer', as he had PLed all the way to 50. His lvl 35 blaster is known as 'The blaster-who-tanks'. Generally a complete idiot.

Hey I'm the doc, member of Tyche's SG, and while trawling for our website found this one, so thought I'd join. I've had several experiences with AuroraPB on his new toon Jarmen Kell
This guy sent a tell to the leader of a group I've been with, the first words he said were, "Hi, add me, I want PL". We added his toon at lvl 12 and he got to lvl 18 before we all got completely pissed off with him. Although the leader, Granite Killer, isn't always the most polite, the others generally are, but Jarmen Kell came in and then wanted all the other's kicked so that he would get better xp!!!! For the few levels we PLed him he would stand back (perfectly legitimate) but then order our tankers, and myself, the healer, trying to tell us what to do, before promptly running ahead of the tanks, dying and complaining if resurrect wasn't ready again. In short.
BEWARE JARMEN KELL. If he ask's for an add ignore him.
The guy even had the cheek to add me on msn, and has since not stopped shouting at me for an add, needless to say he is blocked, and if you even feel like letting some anger out, please don't refrain from adding aurorapb@hotmail.co.uk.

Sometime a few months ago on Triumph server I was playing my dark/dark defender and I was invited to a group. In it was another dark/dark defender with a voodoo theme to his character (wish for the life of me I could remember his name). Anyway, he starts trash talking the team, saying how much they suck. I speak up and tell him to back off because he's acting like a jerk. So the leader of the team gives him the star so he can kick me, mid-mish. Then he puts me on ignore. By sheer happenstance, I had the exact same mish in the same location. So I pop back into the building and find them all there. The other dark defender had survived a recent battle and was in the middle of tping all his dead comrades back to the entrance so they could use some awakens. I had to laugh since he obviously couldn't handle the healing duties himself and had just kicked the only other person who could heal from the team (and I was better at it than he was). But my point is not only was he an a$$, but for some reason, the party supported him. Call me dense, but I just don't get it.

I love the all so rare players that complain when you heal them, like what has happened to you, and then whine when they die near you and they then wonder why you didn't step in to help. (Happened to me once in the Hollows with my Healer. Champion Server).

There's other ways I try to help sometimes and they whine about that to. I mean, how much XP did I get for tossing a web grenade on a tank's runner for him? None! But he threatened to report me for it!

Just for tossin a web grenade? I wonder how hard the GMs were laughing at him at their computers? LOL :)
Its (almost) like this one guy chatting on Freedom last night for a guy to stop spamming. He was saying: "Jesus Christ man, please stop spamming." or something along those lines. It was said only once and the spammer threatened to report him every time "Christ" was used in a sentence there after. Needless to say he got heckled a lot.
To play devils advocate, I coulod understand how that could be offensive. But I'd only consider it offensive if it were done repeatedly and out of pure malice. But that's just me.

Ran into this guy, Agent 567, on Freedom. As a level 30, he wasn't wanting to fight anything less than a 38. He'd pitch a fit whenever things didn't go his way, and yell at us when we'd tell him to turn off group fly.
He somehow made it from level 30 to 38 in about 5 days, and was kicked from a sewer trial team I was on. When he tried to invite others from the team to one of his own, and was declined, he went crazy, telling the person he was going to report them for power levelling.
Pot. Kettle. Black. Most of us that were on the team have now put the kid on global ignore.

I used to play a kineticist. I usually told people what I was doing before I pulled a siphon power or transfusion. That way there was no harm done. I don't remember ever getting any rude responses from that, especially not when I asked before I did it. But he/she had no business being an a55 about it if you wanted to help him/her.

the only time this happened to me was in atlas, i had just gotten a new BS power and wanted to try it out. i think i was at 18 at the time so as i was running to another zone, me and someone else got to a group at the same time. i unleashed the power of my sword on one guy to see what the power looked like and the kid flipped out! i just was like eeeh, i dont care and kept running.
i tend to tank with my scrapper and sometimes get over my head, but i dont see how you can complain even if you only have half of your life left if someone heals you. one, that saves your dull pain or heal for a little bit later when you might need it more.
and if i'm surrounded and someone comes and starts killing guys from the group i'm in, its not like you cant see another mob down the street! baddies are everywhere, theres no need to complain about stealing kills! its not like there are a limited number of potential kills roaming the streets.
i consider stealing a kill when i have my target down to just about dead and someone coming in and dropping the hammer on them to take out their last bit of life. THAT is kill stealing. if your in a group of 10 baddies, you down own the whole group! if someone wants to attack one of the mob that you are not attacking, so what!
wow i planned on saying like 2 lines and look what i spit out. :)
but one last thing, i was in the best group i've ever played with yesterday. i'm 23 years old and i was the youngest person in my group! there was a husband/wife combo, and a grandfather aged 58! we were the last 4 left of the initial 8 and we rocked some major socks off of trolls for about an hour. great convos and a great team!
I won't dress up as Frosty the Snowman for a Christmas party...

Thats horrible what idiots are saying to you all. I'm happy it only happened to me once and when it did I acctaully was at fault. I killed/arrested someone who he had not hit. I'm so ashamed. Someone KILL ME! If someone couldn't tell, j/k :)

I beg to differ on this specific point, because of the first sentence.
Yes, it is not their ZONE, but it IS their mob, their fight, their fun. Go get your own. Do not interfere unless invited. It's not just a question of XP; it's a matter of simple courtesy.
Scrappers, tankers and area blasters often love to take on mobs. Some players enjoy the challenge, the danger... some want to test their limits, or even trying to get the ''damage taken'' badges. When you jump into someone else's fight, you simply spoil their fun.
Sometimes I, when playing under level 10, let myself be defeated voluntarily, so I can use the emergency teleport to the hospital just to get out of the Hollows and right to Atlas Park or Skyway City faster!(talk about cheap transportation!). But I would not berate someone who healed me thinking I was in jeopardy. I would explain, still thanking him for his good intention. There is no justification and no excuse for rudeness.
When you spend half an hour searching for a rare, specific mob and then someone cuts in and take out some of your intended targets, you do get annoyed... but don't get rude.
Healing or buffing someone, or debuffing his enemies without damaging them is interference, yes, but not steal-killing in any way (read the manual please!). I am myself always grateful for such heroic intervention, even when not really needed (I would certainly not come down on someone who was genuinely trying to help). Some people might find it annoying... wich, granted, is no reason to get rude... but some people are just that: rude, ill-mannered and foul-tempered.
Healing, buffing, non-damaging debuffing should always be welcomed intervention; if not, say so politely. But, jumping uninvited, fists flying and blasters firing, into a fight already in progress, that IS rude.
Now this may happen accidentally, because you didn't see there was someone else or because you ''tought'' it would help. When you realize (or are told about) your mistake, just back off, type ''sorry'' and move on. He insults you? Type ''/ignore name'' and be forever rid of his bad mouth.
I believe the best way to handle this is simply by typing : ''Want help?''and be ready. Just by hitting the ''help'' button, they will whistle their response without losing tempo in their life or death struggle... or decline, or ignore you, so you can go on your merry way.
Or... just do your good samaritan best; and if you get a moronic response, /ignore him and forget about teaming up with the jerk. There are enough players around that will appreciate your efforts, or at least show you the minimum respect you deserve. Go to them and have fun saving them and the world!
