| Worst Technical Reps EVER |

After 6 tech reps and spending 5.5 hours on the phone with them, in which time they have had me do a system recover (great I get to DL CoX and GW again), I say HP tech reps can eat my ****. The last straw was when the last representitive had me do THE EXACT SAME THING that the first one had me do. Call my ISP, just have my ISP tell me the same thing they did a few days ago...it's not them, it's likely my networking card. I told EVERY HP tech rep that same thing, multiple times, and they still had the audacity to tell me it's my ISP. This after other friends that are PC savvy told me the same thinmg. My pc is 3 months old, still under warranty, and this b**** kees saying that it is a wireless modem problem and that they have a special team that deals with them. The catch about this special team is, you got it, they cost money. I didn't spend 1 grand on a product to be covered fully for 2 years to be told I got to spend money to talk to some specialty dudes and that it costs extra. To say the least, I am highly irrate.

Most techs are reading from cards. they say same thing because they go downt he list.. most of them wont' know where a hard drive is unless it's on their list. They won't listen at all.

OMFG!!!! After breaking down and paying the 60 flippin dollars, they STILL CUOLDN'T fix it. The "specialist" guy had me go through the same CRAP that everyone else had me go through...and then at the end told me to call the ISP. After telling him I had...3 FRIKKING times today he said oh. I asked where I could take it to get repaired, and he said he WASN'T ALLOWED to give that information out, and to call the other tech reps back. Still on the phone :(

It keeps dropping connection for no reason. My ISP has 100% stability right now (and all day), but it just drops off. I keep having to right click my Local Area Connection and repair it. As soon as I do that, it connects to the internet for a few minutes and then drops again. I then repeat whole process over.

i have your solution. get wired internet. its more reliable, more secure, and doesnt drop out unless the ISP has a problem. i personally never call tech support. thats what the awesome guys at Fry's electronics are for

Only reason I called is because I didn't know where to take it without voiding my contract. Finally though, after 10 hours and as many tech reps, I got a smart one. He says I will get a refund for the 60 dollars, because I am not on wireless internet, just my signal get's picked up that way. (Check Clearwire High Speed Wireless ISP to see what I mean). He also connected me to a hardware specialist, who is sending Fed Ex to my house on Thursday to take my PC to a repair shop to get it fixed. Looks like soon enough (unless I pull my dusty old PC out) I will be PC less. Viva La Compaq Presario 5400 (the old PC)

I'm glad to hear you are getting your money refunded. I would have been on the phone while the tech guys were at my house if they had told me the same thing the CR reps had told you to do.
So w/ your old computer can you play CoH? And what other way are they compensating you for this? I would totally be pushing for something taken off a bill somewhere.
And does all this mean you will be missing out on the double XP this weekend?

As with any Kind of Wireless service you will always be able to find a "Sweet Spot" where the service is great, conversely you will also for no "apparent" reason drop out when you show great service. I realize it may be a pain in the butt, but how hard would it be to move the PC to see if this is part of the problem. I have often had to tweak locations on wireless equipment to get optimum coverage, perhaps it's something else that is corrupting the signal locally.

Wow, gov, that was gettin me irate just reading about it. Oh, and I haven't heard the term "tech rep" in quite a few years, thanks. :)
But yeah, that's why I build my own PC's. If it doesn't work right, I fix it myself. But then again, I troubleshoot that kinda stuff for a living too. Haven't dealt much with wireless though. The few wireless networks I've set up worked fine. Glad to hear they're gettin something done for ya even though it might not be the ideal situation for you.

Wow Gov. That does suck but I'm glad you are getting some results finally. I work for a support department and to not document Previous Resoution Attempts by any support department makes them look stupid. They definately don't have their s**t wired straight.

I actually did try moving the PC to different spots. It still had the same problem. I also had my ISP provider look through the modem into my computer while having htis problem (Clearwire has the best tech reps I've talked to) and they said that while my modem was showing full strength, no dropout, they said it wasn't showing my PC anywhere online. Yet while my PC was showing them nothing about being online, I was browsing the internet.
Also, it is highly possible I may miss out on Double XP weekend :(

Any way to get a um... temporary computer to use for the weekend? You know some places give you a car when your's is being fixed... maybe you can explain to them how it is detrimental to your health that you have a computer this weekend?

I had that kinda problem with an ISP provider that i used awhile back, thier tech's didn't know up from down. And to make matters worse every time i called i would get this person with a really heavy Indian accent(country not native)and i felt like i was talking to Apu from the Simpsons!lol
Anyways i feel for ya, i know with HP and all the layoffs they had a couple of years ago getting someone who knows their stuff is a miracle!

Hey, Gov. If you flip through the HP handbook you'll see that it specifically mentions that you will have continual connectivity drop outs if you are extremely and unbelievably ugly. Since you meet and exceed those qualifications, you might want to think about switching to a Dell. :P

I had a similar problem with my father's Compaq about 6 months ago. The computer was about 3 months old, and came with onboard LAN, video and sound. We have cable for our connection to the net.
One day I saw this error message:
And trouble began. Being an IT support tech, I tried a few different NIC's and searched as many forums as I could for a solution. Nothing!!
Finally after 4 agonizing days, 3 reinstalls and countless times banging my head against the wall, I came across the solution completely by accident.
I had taken out all my expansion cards (onboard anything sux), and fired up the computer, and boom!! Connection.
So I added the expansion cards one after the other, and everything was fine. There have been no problems since.
The problem seems to have started, a few hours after I installed a new Nvidia Graphics card. I use the PC for a while installed the new drivers, and even played a game. I still can't figure out what caused the loss of connection. Maybe the BIOS just couldn't deal with the fact that I didn't want to use it's onboard Video.
But it just goes to show that sometimes wierd things happen in computers that make no sense and no one can explain it.
Just thought I would share this with you, in the off chance that you might have installed some new hardware recently.

Well, so far I am now on my backup PC. No internet problems yet. Old Compaq Presario 5400 saves the day. Now I just gotta wait 20 hours while the games download. I mean that literally lol.
