So I8 is finally arrived and everyone is happy(and then there was much rejoicing). Vet Rewards, Faultline, Police Band missions, addition to Pocket D and so much more. This little thread is to help out anyone that may never had a chance to go to the Test and play or dares not venture near the CoH forums.
Vet Rewards:
This is a program that gives badges, powers (perma-temp powers), costume choices, base items, and other lil gifts for their time on CoH/V. It runs in incrememnts of 3 so if you have played/paid for CoH for 9 months you would be eligible for 3,6, and 9 month rewards. This program is retroactive so it doesnt start now. If you have been playing CoH since release then you have around 30 some odd months (too lazy to figure out exact number). Also this program spans all characters new and old. If you just made someone today they will have all the Vet Rewards you older heroes have. The link below will show you all the available items for Veteran Reward Program:
Vet Reward Info
When you 1st sign into CoH/V you will see all these badges jump up on your screen, these are just the titles for the 3 month increments of your badge. For instance the 1st 3 month vet award is called Trustworthy and your reward would be Trenchcoat (plus free costume token). To claim your vet reward you will need to go to your Navigation Bar (where ever that may be), click on Badges, then side scroll till you see the tab titled Veteran. When you open this tab you will see all of the months you have racked up as well as what you have earn (under this tab you will see respec token, costume token, base details, and power tokens to claim).
When you are ready you can claim the item by simply clicking on the button next to the vet reward. Once you do this you will see a message flash across your screen indicating you have accepted the item (its not claimed and cant be again for that character).
If the item you claim is a power a pop up window appears allowing you to choose between the optional powers. Once you pick your powers you are unable to change it (even w/ respec). If you claim a respec or costume token all you need to do to use it is go to your nearest Icon (costume) or Jack Wolfe (respec in Galaxy City). As far as I know the issues with claiming all the respecs at once but not being able to use the others later has been solved. I do know you can claim all the free costume slots w/o error on doing new ones. If your claim a sprint power, once claimed all the sprint options will show in your Power Inventory, all you have to is add them to your tray to use. This also goes for whatever new perma-temp power you choose. Base items will go into your "Personal Items" and when your in your base you will be able to place them (if your allowed that is).
Now I am aware of two issues with claiming Vet Rewards. Base Items and Sprints, when you claim them still remain as items to claim. Dont bother with claiming them a 2nd time it still doenst go away and you dont get double prizes (i tried).
If anyone has any questions or anything additional to add that may help others (or even me) add to this. Maybe if you spotted a bug that your reported so we can be aware would be great too. This will be pinned for a few days in case it gets bumped off front page of site.

Police Wave Scanners
For those of you who dont know, police wave scanners are the hero version of the Villain newspaper quests.
To obtain one of these hand held marvels, talk to the new detective contacts in your contact lists. They'll give you one of them.
To use them, just click on the scanner at the top of your contact list. If your in an area comprible to your level, and have a spare mission slot availble you will receive information of urgent problems that need hero attention!

Oh I forgot one....Trenchcoats. Unlike Capes that have the option to color the inside with a click of the tab, for some reason they work different. The option hasnt been added and thus for us to change the interior of the coat color you have to do this.
Select the option for "Copy All Color", then choose the color you want for your character's inside of the coat. Once you choose the color, select costume option like belt, gloves, or whatever then deselect "Copy All Color". Now you can change the color of the rest of your color. But remember if you need to fix the color on the inside of trenchcoat you will have to basically restart over. Hopefully soon they can fix this problem because its quite annoying when you want to change the color of the jacket and it doesnt appear as darkened option on the inside of trench.
BTW...here are the patch notes too.
Patch Notes for I8!

Unfortunatel a respec bug that appeared on test seems to have come over on the live server. I've tried to do two different Vet respecs on my PB today, and the second respec failed 3 different times, even after if I logged off/in in between. All I remember from encoutering this on Test that it may have something to do with the slotting process for Kheldians, specifically slotting Nova/Dwarf powers at below the levels when those forms become available. Keep in mind I'm not certain about this, and it certainly could be more complicated that I described, but in any case there I8 has carried over a bug that prevents at least some characters from using more than one vet respec a day, if at all.

There are two exploration badges to be found in Pocket D!!
One is easy to find the other takes.... well lets say the only way to get it is to take a friend...
The Faultline Beacon does not work anymore. You need to find all SIX exploraton badges to get the new beacon.
The old one dumps you in Atlas Park - or so I am reliably informed.

I tested this quite a bit on the test server, and came up with the Sands/Axe as causing my problems. Others reported the Sprints a s the culprit(s). I haven't tried it on live yet, but imagine it's the same problem. The patch notes claim that slotting any kheldian travel powers are the problem, but I never did, and still had problems. Also, non-khelds are reporting the RespecFailed on live now on the main boards if they grabbed the VR powers.
Best bet is to wait on the respec(s), or don't claim the sands/axe/sprints/staff, etc. before you respec.

In my case on the Live servers I was able to get past the respec bug by avoiding any "backtracking" in the respec process, That is to say, if I had any second thoughts about my power or slot choices during the respec, I either left them as is or cancelled out of the respec and started over again.
Now onto something more generally helpful:
LOW LEVEL RESPECS
Understandably even veteran players aren't used to considering respec posibilities before lvl 24 (or, as is often the case, lvl 22 when a character and/or player starts going through a "mid level crisis" in anticipation of a lvl 24 respec or out of frustration over trying to buy SOs). However, once you sit back from the excitement of Veteran Respecs for any of your characters regardless of levels, it's easy to see some common sense benchmarks that are good times for low-level respecs:
12: Easily one of the most attractive early levels for a Respec, taking a Respec at lvl 12 will allow you to take full advantage of the Dual Origin Enhancements that become available by giving you the chance to sell off all the Training Enhancements you already have slotted.
14: If you know ahead of time that your character will have a vet respec available, you can avoid taking any of the "buy in" powers required for travel powers if you don't think they're useful before lvl 14. Not only does a vet respec allow you to put off getting pre-travel powers, but it can also make choosing such a power at 14 more appealing by allowing you to put extra slots and DOs into it as soon as you choose it.
17/22: These are the levels at which the character gains access to the next level of enhancements, lvls 20/25 respectively. This can be very important if you're carefully budgeting ehancement purchases as part of concentration on rapidly advancing a character. 22 also shares the transition appeal of lvl 12, in this case a respec allowing you to sell off any and all Training or DO enh. in favour of new Single Origins.
Once you get to lvl 24, you're back in the same boat as everyone else, but hopefully these suggestions can help you out leading up to it.
