State of the Site Address
Greetings fellow Ampers, I am here to just give an update on the site and all the going-on. Since I have taken up my 2nd term as Site Manager at CoH Gameamp.com I have been in constant contact with my fellow staffers on how we can regularly bring the best Gameamp.com that we can. And through this we have discussed many topics ranging from language on site, ways to improve submission/guidelines, the forums, and site activity. In our many talks we have debated the pros and cons of each area and hopefully our decisions are for the best. Below I will just breakdown the individual topics and then give a little information on what is the course for that subject.
*Language (On Site/Global Channel)
When you 1st sign up for your Gameamp.com Network account you are given a set of RULES AND GUIDELINES you must adhere to while you are an active member of the site. These rules are great but each Site Manger (of their respective sites) is allowed to be somewhat lenient on those governing rules. We realize that over the years certain curse words that where once considered too racy for general use; are now acceptable in everyday discussions. As such we also realize that the Amper public likes to express such words when they talk in-game (Global Channel mainly) and in Forum discussions. Being as that may we will unloosen the language noose a bit to allow for certain words to be used in those areas. Please be aware that these specific words does not mean that they should be used every chance you get. These terms should be used as loosely as possible; and only when the situation really dictates necessitate. The staff will also reserve the right to edit any usage of these words at any time and in any capacity (Forums/Global). Below are the acceptable words (and only these words).
Please remember that we will still watch over the site and global with the stringency that should be used. If we feel that these words are being tossed around at an exorbitant amount then we may take action to cease any further curse words on Site or Global Channel. Speaking of the Global Channel (discussed many times earlier) all Gameamp.com Channel members should treat that as the same as forum posting (or any other site communication). Staffers while on game will also moderate chat and if any unacceptable activity occurs we will take action as if it’s the site. On side note, never should these words be used as Topic Titles for threads. If these words are used, your topic will be removed ASAP. No questions asked, no PM to you either.
*Submissions
Currently we have no submission limits for the site (other than 5 screenshots per day per member). At this time we will not enforce any rules to restrict amount of content any one member can submit but we do ask one thing from members. If you plan to do some sort of mass submission (generally anything more than 7 items) then we ask that you give us some sort of heads up. This way if we have anything currently in the Unapproved Content we can get that resolved and be able to handle submissions faster. We don’t wish for members entries to sit in a limbo status and like to get that information out to the other members ASAP. You can reach any Staffer through Private Message and here is the current list of active Staffers . We are here to assist members and the site, so please come to us if you have questions or concerns concerning your submissions. On the reverse side if we do contact you concerning one of your items we ask that you get back to as soon as possible so that whatever the problem may be we can resolved it promptly.
Concerning submissions and lack of information/errors we will send you a message about that problem. If we don’t hear from you with 3-4 days (at least an acknowledgement that you received PM) then your item will be purged. It will be up to you as a member to correct the issues of the submission and resubmit. We will not send a follow up PM if we don’t hear from you in that time frame. To make things move easier, before you hit that submit button make sure everything all area (needed) are completed, spelling/grammar checked, and just double check everything for quality assurance.
*Forums/Threads
The staff has noticed in past weeks an influx of threads from the Off-Topic nature (ranging on a wide variety of subjects). We realize that every thread will not be City of Heroes related but we are a specialized site after all. We are asking members that if posting in Off-Topic forum to post with caution. The site is open to discussion not always concerning CoH but there is a time/place/need for all topics and sometimes our site isn’t that place. We don’t wish to set restrictions on what can or can’t be posted but when the topics begin to become negative in nature we start to get concerned. To be more specific (but not pointing out anyone in particular); when we start to see threads concerning peoples deaths’ (specifically persons’ that only 1% of the community may be aware of), topics on depression, suicidal tendencies, and relationships then we start to venture down a road that may not be suitable for site or members. We don’t wish to have a dictatorship and oppress our members of certain issues; we just want to try to keep the site at its best. And doing whatever necessary to avoid possibilities of flaming or derogatory comments is best way about that.
CoH Gameamp.com used to have a Rant/Rave section but that was removed. Why you ask? Members began to use that area for lesser than stellar activity. The felt since it was titled “Rant/Rave” that flaming people was appropriate. We don’t want the same thing to happen to the Off-Topic forum, it’s a great section for people being able to discuss topics not of CoH. Removing the section would be the final step, possibility of restricting what may be in that area is another. So we ask that you used the utmost judgment when you decide to create an Off-Topic thread. We will not at this time place a mandate on acceptable material but we will watch over that particular forum more. Also on this topic I do notice a lot of members making post but not always under the right thread. If the item is related to CoH then best if placed under General Discussion. If the post is server specific or AT specific then make sure it’s under there. This is to make site navigation easier for members (especially the ones that check those areas daily).
*Site Activity
The success and demise of websites lies in its community, a strong and happy community means a long-lasting website. Thusly we are constantly striving to present the best Amp site we can bring. Approving the items our members submit quickly, bringing contest/fun to the site as best as possible, moderating forum activity, and being here to assist members when they need it. We love happy Ampers and want to make your experience here as great as possible. When we create rules or do things that may seem harsh we do them not to upset members or cause problems but to protect the sanctity of the site. We don’t wish the site to digress into a site where members fear posting because of insults or scrutiny. That is one of the reasons why we have great members, many of us like that attitude of the site.
If anyone has any suggestions, ideas, concerns, or problem about the site (or the Gameamp.com Network in general) then please let us know. You can PM staff members or even post in Site Feedback .
The staff would like to thank you all for your participation at CoH Gameamp.com and look forward to future activity here. If it wasn’t for you, our great members, none of us would have a great place to come to everyday.

To quote Bart Simpson, "Damn, Hell, Ass." Haha ok I'll stop. Great, um, speech? The one thing I wanted to talk about was the Off-Topic section. I agree that some far off-topic material is inappropriate for the site, but for a little while you had me scared that we were going to lose it. That got me thinking. One of the biggest things that keeps me coming back to Gameamp is the community. People's personalities, that show most in the Off Topic section (as well as in game) I think it would be interesting to have an "Off Topic" section of Gameamp.com, where members from all over gameamp can come to just chat. Realize that its probably a long shot, but thought I would mention it.

Hell, you only legalized one word that was ever against FCC regulations and I still won't use it. The other three were all used routinely by TV preachers.

nice speech.
i guess this bit would fall under site activity: being a badger, i kind of take semi 'pride' at looking through our badge section here. It just seems a little bit difficult at times to find the right thing to put it under though. I get the 'what zone it's in', and i get the 'which type', but i don't really get the 'which type of achievement' bit.
Now, granted, we all know there's differences between the damage ones and the inf ones. I'm just wondering if maybe instead of the 'which type of achievement' section to choose from, when filling out a badge, we can just say how it's gotten?
(granted, this may be totally off base, in which case, just ignore me. hell, most people do on a daily basis)
only other bit: when sorting the badges, I noted that in the 'which type of achievement' sorting list, it says Strike Forces.
yea...Strike Forces...
other than that..

That idea of a Site-wide Forum would be a very interesting idea. Im not sure if its a feasible concept but it doesnt hurt to ask. We will talk to thejeni about it and see what she says. That is if we can get her to look down upon us mere peons from her mighty fortress high atop Mt Gameamp. I will let everyone know (or maybe she will) when we get some sort of answer.
As for the badge section DC, I will look in on this and see what we may be able to do. Maybe make that 3rd option something that would be more fitting to CoH since we dont do no "Strike Forces".

*Shuffles in on soap box*
I'd like to thank not only the community, but the members of that community who over the past year have helped shape this fan forum network into what it is.
Warshadow, for his early leadership before he was moved to pastures new by his profession.
Rainah, Phase, Jeni as the site managers who have come and gone over the last year. Having worked with all 3 I know what a thankless task Grifter has and that sometimes you just to be a bad guy.
To all the staffers who, like the site managers, seem to have changed a lot for one reason or another this year, who also have to work very hard to keep the site going and seem to take a lot of flack and never get any thanks.
Finally to the people out there who were around the day that I walked into the Atlas Park City Hall, strode over to the desk and registered the sites Supergroup on Triumph - The Gameamp Alliance - thank you for keeping the dream alive and getting some level 50s.
I'm not staff anymore, I don't have much to do with the SG anymore. Only thing that keeps me here is the community and it's the best damn community for gaming I've seen.
Hope everyone has a fantastic christmas and a great new years and roll on I9!!!

Didn't ya know I had to slide in here.
I've got only one suggestion O Mighty Grifter. I pimp the Sites to me mates on both sides of the CoX coin, and the feedback I've gotten in is that CoH side needs a lil more info in the Contact/Mission Area. I know that Red Tomax has cornered the market in CoH somewhat, but y'all can still catch him. And IMHO that and Badges is what most of the online-website viewing community is looking for nowadays. They want to know what they are getting into; when they should get into it; and just what they will get out of what they are getting into. I know it's a big pain in the tochis job, but it would benefit the Site tremendously, I am sure.
:: shines fingernails..er..claws on shirt and enjoys reflection in them :::
Of course, I have already laid the smackdown and surpassed Dread Tomax on CoV side. Not that it doesnt hurt that he seems more of a Heroes player, but I've still got more info than he does in my niche. Now watch him check this Site, and amp up his Villainous efforts. Oh well, competition is the spice.
Just thought I'd help, and with a miniumum of coloration.
:: Editted for Content Addition and Disclaimer ::
When I say my niche; I mean the section I was given/took charge over and molded into my own twisted image. I know it is through the efforts of the membership that we get these things done, and I am thankful for it, but after using 5 toons to level through the content just to make sure the I's are crossed and the T's dotted; I take some pride in my oversight of the section. And there is still much work to do even now.
O' Lord it's hard to be humble...

The Badge section, something that is one of those section on the site that we are constantly trying to make as nice as possible.
One of the problems we face with badges is that there are other sites that have pretty much cornered the market on that specific thing. Especially when you can add in Add-ons that allow you to see the badges, plaques, and such without even exiting the game. We have many great members who are constantly submitting the latest badges to keep us one of the most updated but I would like to see us take the maps we have and add in badge spots on them. But to do that would take much time and not to make it seem like a rip-off of other sites.
We have a list of sections/items we have in the works to improve but its a long process. Send PMs or post forums with ideas how you would potentially like to see specific sections improved. We enjoy getting feedback from members since you are the users. What things can we try to do to (if reasonable) make them a little easier or better?

Meh, DC. In total, I may agree with your take on Dread's side of Nofuture, but like I said, about a month after I7 he seemed to lose steam CoV side. Not much left to improve on the CoH side there. I was specifically addressing his Contact/Missions section which is where he shines on CoH. For badges you go to CIT or Badge-Hunter usually, but for the Mission and how to get it one would go to Red/Dread. I've been working to turn that trend to GameAmp (on CoV where I am) if possible by having complete info. And at this point, we have more info. I watch all the competition during the day when I cant play. We dont format like anyone else, and that is good and bad, but we are improving and making these network Sites unique and more 'spot on' everyday.
Cant help but feel good when a plan comes together.

sapir you must have really been into that post because it is pretty monochromatic.
i think that we are now adding designation for story arcs will help out a lot, but we just need to get more info.
how are your newspaper missions over there? was it hard to get most of the missions? i've been trying to update our police detectives as much as possible. they arent bad because they really don't contain much info in the mission brief.

While I may or may not agree with you, sapir, there is, AS i said earlier, one definite thing that Dread is beating us (you) at: ORGANIZATION.
I've taken the liberty of looking through a few contacts, just to see what you've done. While i do see several story arcs, they are not organized, in my opinion. All of the missions are there, but they are not connected, but rather scattered around the contact's mission list. Take, oh, for example, Black Scorpion. I noticed what appeared to be several story arcs, but the first one i clicked on in the 45+ range that said SA (which i take to be story arc) indicated that it was actually the 5th mission in an arc of 10, not the first as i and possibly others would expect.
So, what's my suggestion? If possible, some way of connecting them. Say, for example:
Black Scorpion:
story arc 1
story arc 2
story arc 3
all click-able.
You click on the first arc, then each mission is individual. Take that first story arc, for example:
Story arc 3
mission 1 (Investigate base)
mission 2 (Eliminate all malta, find clue)
mission 3 (Kidnap hostage)
mission 4 (Defeat Big The Tank, plant bombs)
and so on. and each mission can be clicked on to give further details.
(note: the above story arc, mission titles, and enemies to be defeated are completely random and were the first things that popped into my head. No insult was intended to the Malta Group or to Big.)
EDIT: forgot to mention.
No, i haven't any clue as to how much work this idea would require, or if it is even humanly possible. I know how to play the game, not how it works. :) I'm merely saying that some way to bring the different missions together may help out and better organize the mission/contact area.

Actually, DC, you are correct, but we are up against what the Devs have presently available in the GameAmp software. If you looked closely at a few contacts they are in the proper Story Arc order, but this was after some 'work arounds' that I accidentally found, and they take a bit of time. Indeed I originally lost some Mission info before getting it right. We have requested the ability to move Mission Order freely, but that is just one of an ever-increasing number of Site improvements on the Devs' plate right now. You have to remember that much (if not all) of the Network software is proprietary and original designed by our own Devs for each Site. So added functionality to a Site is like a Patch in CoX. It takes some time.
That is one thing that Red may have over us; simplicity of code. To be honest a decade ago I was coding my own little website in a similar fashion, but that was HTML 1.0, and many years under the bridge. Im lucky that I can remember how to code for color anymore.
All that being sad, you can click on CoV Missions on our main page; then check the Story Arc box and click Filter, and you will get a list of all the Story Arcs that we have tagged so far in their proper order. You would be srurpised how much is hidden just below the surface on GameAmp Sites...even the Staff doesnt know all that we can do...yet.

Oh great Sapir, I tell you these secrets in confidence and you go blabbing to the entire CoX community...geez, good help is hard to find these days....lol
Ok, jokes aside (for now), I would say that in time, all things could/would be possible for the CoX sites. The biggest thing we have going for us is the fabulous community that frequents these sites and provide us with great feedback and wishlists, that is how any site becomes great.
Whether it's CoH or CoV, keep the ideas and wants coming and we'll do what we can to see about getting everything addressed. I know personally, that Sapir has been working like a busy little beaver to get the missions "fixed" for a while now (maybe he is the one breaking the site???).
In time, we will have cornered the entire CoX info market, MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! was that too over the top? just a wee bit? i couldn't tell...

That idea is great DC but I doubt at this time or near future that would be something we could implement. I would like to see that maybe as a side step of Missions.
*Missions (link)
- Missions
- Story Arc Missions
Each of those would be click-able links...then they would breakdown into DC's layout.
Like Sap and Bishop stated though the sites features were all originally created by the DEV's therefore not something easily changed by Staffers.
I have seen a few other fan-sites with that same setup look. Its good for Story Arcs specifically; which those others sites generally only focus on. I think the addition of the "Story Arc" identifier is nice, helpful feature for us now (till something else can be implemented). Best thing can do is just keep giving us suggestions, ideas, and anything to help further the sites in anyway possible.
