is this something the site is intending to run? if so what is it? sorry to be a pain but ive just did a full reload of my computer from scratch and really dont wanna have to wipe again!

Is this the only site you get that on? I havent recieved anything like that. Maybe someone else is having same issue. When did it start happening?

I don't get that either, have you run any kind of Spamware/Adware detection software recently to check to see if you might have something causing a deeper problem? It could be that it's a symptom of something larger.

RE: Active X control on gameamp

it started happening yesterday at about 7pm gmt, it only happens on gameamp and it only occurs when im using ie7 not firefox.

ive run a full adaware scan and trend micro scan and nada on viral or spyware.

its not massively important though and im not gonna run the control, just annoying beep when i open gameamp from hotmail.

RE: Active X control on gameamp

I'm getting this too. On both CoH and the WoW site. (Not sure about the others)

"This website wants to run the following add-on: 'Microsoft Data Access - Remote Data Services Dat... 'from 'Microsoft Corporation'. If you trust the website and the add-on and want to allow it to run, click here..."

I wasn't on last night so I'm unsure of when it started for me. I just started getting it from my work access.

"Trust" Microsoft...... Well, it is the most widely loaded virus on a PC....lol.

It doesn't stop anything from working that I can tell so I've just been ignoring it. I'm also in an environment where my security is set pretty high by the IT group.

The new version of explorer has been doing this for several pop up type actions like the weblink script for our posts, but the message is different. I've been approving that for my posts with links. This is new today.

RE: Active X control on gameamp

Ok, I just got it when I loaded up the latest IE. I run Firefox so I am not getting it there. Not really sure what that is, I would say its on the end of IE and not Gameamp (but I could be incredibly wrong on that aspect. I say this since I am only getting it on IE and not Firefox.

I went ahead and approved it on the IE, closed it and restarted. Never came back, is it happening everytime you leave GA for another site then come back?

RE: Active X control on gameamp

Actually it's happening for evey screen change like it's trying to refesh something on screen. It's definately IE triggering it, but I still see everything I used to see.

At first I thought it might be associated with that advertizement banner at the top of the forums but that's still there and working too.

I'm going to give it a day and approve it if nothing bad happens. It's not my PC currently anyhow :P I'll let my office IT deal with it. It may just be a new Microsoft data farming attachment in IE.

I have PM'd thejeni about this, but I believe there is a virus on gameamp atm: the " VBS/Psyme " trojan script trying to run. My AV keeps catching it everytime I try to load a page.

Info on it can be found here : clicky

PLEASE everyone, make sure you have up-to-date virus definitions and a good AV program running on your computer.

Could I get more info about this from those of you that are getting it. Is it on every single gameamp page you go on? If not which pages are the ones you get? Have you recently ran a spyware check on your computer?

I may be posting more questions in a bit.

if you've downloaded the new Internet explorer (the one with the tabs) you get this same message whenever you try and use the http or IMG buttons. but thats only with the new browser and those buttons.

I have the same IE that Big is talking about. I used to get warniing about VBS/Psyme whenever I came here, but since downloading the new IE this has stopped. Don't know if this is helpful, but it's worth a shot.

Ran a spyware check and this has come up. I get it on every single COH page. I just got rid of one thing that was dragging my gaming connection down everytime I tried to play.

Im not agreeing to this at all and click the little x in the corner. I trust the site but not the add on. It wasn't put there by the powers that be so my advice would be not to trust it.

RE: Active X control on gameamp

After looking into Google for some information I see a handful of forums with similar threads. None of the threads really leading anywhere useful.

What it does look like though is that it has something to do with the version of windows and browsers that you were using when the problem occured. Which means we'll need a little organization to truly get the problem found and solved.

I need these questions answered in this order:
  • What browser are you using? IE6, IE7, FF
  • What version of windows are you running? XP Service Pack 2, 64Bit XP
  • Do you recieve this error on every site on the network?
  • If a site has this problem have you refreshed 10 times to make sure it is consistent?
  • If a site that does not have this problem, have you refreshed 10x to make sure its consitent? (Try this on 3 sites)
  • If you are on a site that has this problem can you browse around the site for more than 10 pages consistently recieving this error?
  • If you recieve this error inconsitently please take notice of which advertisements are showing when the error does or does not appear. Use a sample of 10 refreshes to find consistency.
  • If you have determined some sort of consistency based on the page you are on (ie the map page NEVER errors but the guide page does), please list the pages and their outcome
  • Does the site http://www.ampwow.com toss a similar error based on 10 page refreshes?

I know it's painful and tedious but since we don't get the error at the office it's a little hard to find a starting point. Perhaps if we have some hard working forum posters help us out, we'll nail down the problem and correct it.

  • Using IE7 (Build 7.0.5.5730.11),
  • XP Professional 5.1.2600 SP 2 Build 2600
  • Yes, error encountered on every site on the GameAmp network.
  • Yes, pages both refreshed and revisted (closing browser between visits)
  • AmpWow does not throw the error. Refreshed and revisted 10 times each.

Other notes:
Have been running IE7 for weeks and have visited the GameAmp network many times. The ActiveX object has only appeared in the past day or so.
Have been on other sites repeatedly since encountering this error and have not experienced this elsewhere.

Hope it helps.

I visit two. CoH and WoW. Both consistently give the message.
If a site has this problem have you refreshed 10 times to make sure it is consistent?
Yes
If a site that does not have this problem, have you refreshed 10x to make sure its consitent? (Try this on 3 sites)
I have this problem on no other site but GameAmp that I visit.
If you are on a site that has this problem can you browse around the site for more than 10 pages consistently recieving this error?
N/A

It’s consistent.

I do not get the error on ampwow.com

Hopefully this pic works. In case you don't know what we are seeing, and to verify that we are all reporting the same issue:

RE: Active X control on gameamp

Well I will chime in with my bit at work I run XP SP2, MS IE 6 SP2 and McAfee Enterprise V8.0i enterprise with patch 14 Jan. 10th dats and the epo agent also the current MS Defender and here at work I get the McAfee popup warning screen that VBS/Psyme is trying to run but is being blocked.
At home I run XP sp2, McAfee security suite (Firewall and virus combo) and do not get the McAfee warning but do get an MS warning that an active x control is trying to be launched. Hope this helps. The situation is still a problem and a friend from the security group email'ed me yesterday to ask if everything was ok which was a kind way to let me know this is bringing attention to my casual browsing. This problem warning comes up even on the EQ2 site and when I PM folks. Thanks in advance for anything that can be done to address this problem, the security concerns are what have kept some of my guildmates from getting a GameAmp acct. and has hurt my efforts to promote the EQ2 site and bring it back to life.

RE: Active X control on gameamp

Just to give a heads up as to what the problem was...

It was not a virus, it was simply something that triggered the virus scanners to go crazy. After looking into a bunch of other threads on the net I found that simple html fixes would solve the problem. After some trial and error we found some erroneous code (a misplaced b) tag that was causing the problem to occur.

The tag has been taken out and we should be good to go.

Thanks I was able to view the message without being logged in and it was fine but after logging in it has started setting off the virus checker again. Thanks for trying and I can verify some measure of success.
