The cursed Hollows! Oh, how I love you.
One of my latest alts did something I have actually only done once before on a toon, and that is working my way through the entire hollows story line. And although I have cursed that place many, many times. Now after three years I must say I had a wonderful time going through it all. Although the end was a bit anti-climatic for me, but that is for later.
One of the nasty things about the entire arc is that I was most of the time actually too low to pull it off. Which only made the challenge that much more fun. Nothing teaches you the subtleties of your build as trying to survive a ten troll posse.
On this toon (sonic/ice blaster) I was actually planning to just say hi to Lt. Wilcott and move to King's Row. But as I entered the zone a great fellow Amper showed up and together we worked our way through the tricky streets and hills to Electric Eel, Bedrock and eventually Frostfire. The mission to defeat Frostfire will never bore me. It has everything that makes COH such a great game.
Usually by the time I am through with flux I am off doing missions elsewhere because I am already in my mid 10's. But this time round I was only level 11, I think, so I decided to stick around and talk to Julius. The trolls around the dam were all kind or very red-ish colors. But I made a commitment, so I persevered. A crazy run and splash fest in the Red River basin was the result. But I pulled it off! The cave missions that Julius was sending me off to next were good fun too. Plenty of trolls and puminites to keep me on my toes.
But the fun didn't even end with Julius! Talshak the mystic was next. His first mission was the only one in the entire arc that was peanuts. The couple of trolls he wanted me to defeat were now all grey by now. So I was afraid I had leveled too fast, but the 10 puminites he wanted defeated next made me change that quickly. Those rocks were nasty! And all in big groups with surprise magma bosses popping up left and right. I actually had to sneak off to Skyway to run a few radio missions to get to level 14 and get my super jumping skills before attempting them again.
With my SJ, some luck, inspriration and perspiration I got them. A few more cave missions followed and then the big Atta mission. I had done it before, but I had mostly forgotten. It is a huge cave mission with literally hundreds of trolls. When I started off the trolls were green, which I thought was weird, but as I ploughed on they got tougher and tougher. There were even a few red trolls. And after many twistst and turns I found Atta and his famous "Happy Hour" throne. And then disaster stroke. My PC decided to blue screen on me.
I tried to get back online as quickly as possible. Probably to quickly, since I had to reset my PC once more. And when I finally got back in the Hollows I was too late. The mission had been reset. All trolls had returned only to be grey by now. And although I had fun, that was really a bit too much. I stepped out and used for the first time ever the 'complete mission' feature. I feel sad I have no screenie of me on Atta's thrown, but there will always be another alt.
The last mission before the trial of transendance was the introduction to the lovely Circle of Thorns. I think I was still on high from Atta's mission that I even managed to enjoy that mission. Also the fact that my sonic blaster likes them for breakfast made it pleasant of course.
The whole story ends with a change to rescue Sam Wilcott in the trial. I have never actually done the trial, and this toon will not do it either. I have moved on to Faultline for more great stories and action. But I think my next new alt will visit the Hollows too.
Curse you, Hollows, for being such a great place!

I never understood why Hollows has such a bad rep.
It's the only challenging area in the game for levels 5-15ish.
I absolutely love the Frostfire mission, though I prefer the version with invisible ice over the one you get nowadays :-)
Bit traumatized by spending 3 hours in the Atta mission, with a bugged non-appearing Atta though.
A GM helped us in the end, Atta had become 'one with the earth' in an unexpected way. I.e. he had spawned in a wall.
Hollows is some serious fun.
If Hollows had its own Radio Mishes, I'd probably head in at 6 and not leave (Hospital trips exluded) till about 15, then straight to Faultline and stay there till 21!
MMORPG (Roleplaying): Mostly Men Online Role-Playing Girls
MMORPG (Acheivement): Miserable Malcontents Online Rehashing Past Glories
MMORPG (PvP): Macho Men Obviously Really Prefer Griefing
MMORPG (itemization): Misers May Obfuscate Recently Purchased Gold
MMORPG (Social): Virtual Worlds with Virtual Wealth and achievements, but with Real People with Real Feelings.

Actually, with the revamp of the hollows coming in I12, there is going be an endless supply of missions in there. A contact is being set up near the water tower in Cherry Hills that will give an endless supply of missions, against the various factions that appear in the hollows. Who you fight will apparently depend on your level. While not the same as Radio missions for the safeguards, if you need to get some levels before taking on the tougher missions, you will have a source in the zone to do so.

Atta, just like FF, is always good for a level or two, but you have to have a good team for transendance. You have to have 8 and it's frustrating and if you have a couple of morons, not only will you have faceplants but the frustration with the faceplants makes people leave and then you can't finish it. But it is fun when you get it right.

Just noticed This link on the updater today. Sounds good, just hope it didn't go from a bit too challenging to another yawn-town like King's Row, Galaxy, Steel-Canyon et. al. Still should be a Hazard Zone.
