Have noticed several times recently that I would see a new post with an initial response that nailed all the correct information that the poster was looking for. So I rated the post accordingly, only to have it show low credibility. Once it was even in a Negative number after I rated it 10. Seems people don't rate posts very often, or very well even when they get what they needed. This is supposed to be a system to reward people for participating in the community, but it often seems the only way to earn any is thru spamming Screenshots. Keep this in mind, and if someone helps you out, or brings up a fresh topic, give 'em a little love, and credibility. It only encourages our community to improve, even though I believe we have the best Site out there and are the standard for everyone else to reach, we can still improve.

Aye. Well said, and I couldn't agree more.

I think that a post that is rated only shows what you rated it as, not the average rating for the post.
What you're seeing might be from when you tried rating a post, then using your mouse wheel to move down the page without clicking on the page somewhere. I've done it before and rated people -10 accidentally. maybe?

Short clarification.
The net gain for a Post is Total awarded Credit divided by total number of credit-givers.
So, when you rate a post a +10 and someone else rated it zero (hit the wrong button trying to reply for instance) the total scoring is 5. Two people "sleeping on the job" and it's 3 pts total.
You need a minimum amount of accumulated Credibility of your own to be able to rank + or - 10 points btw. I'm not sure what the required ranking is as this may differ per site, but I believe it's Level 10 or above for Guildwars, the site where Credibility flies around the fastest.
I find myself awarding and expecting Credibility less and less, simply due to the fact if I'm going to rate people, I'll rate the entire thread. But that's a bloody pain in the donkey due ton having to submit/reload with each post rather than being able to rank all posts then submit once.
