Toxic Defense?

Why is it that no power will grant toxic defense? This seems odd to me and I've wondered about it for some time now

RE: Toxic Defense?

there aren't many powers with anything for toxic, and most of it is resistance. i think the defletion shield in the force field set has toxic defense over resistance because of the nature of the set. i know that dark armor, regeneration, willpower, and maybe some other armor sets have toxic resistance, integrated in either a heal power or a smash/lethal shield.

I hope this helps.....

RE: Toxic Defense?

I was just wondering because mids doesn't even have a place for toxic defense when you click on the totals. And I was worried about some of my pvp characters who wouldn't have any protection on spines. but thanks for the reply

RE: Toxic Defense?

You can buy/build a temporary power with an empowerment station for minor toxic resistance. Also some of the power sets, standard or otherwise, including the ones listed by Solarix, provide a power that has some resistance to toxic.

Brief research reveals the following power sets/powers:
Darkness Mastery - Dark Embrace
Fiery Aura - Healing Flames
Force Mastery - Force of Nature
Stone Armor - Earths Embrace and Granite Armor
Umbral Aura - Penumbral Shield
Luminous Aura - Essence Boost, White Dwarf
Regeneration - Reconstruction
Sonic Resonance - Sonic Barrier
Stone Mastery - Earth's Embrace
Dark Armor - Dark Embrace
Invulnerability - Resist Elements
Ice Armor - Hoarfrost, Wet Ice
Force Field - Deflection Shield
Cold Domination - Frostwork

Keep in mind that in CoX there are some "little white lies" built into the system:
QUOTE

+DEF(All) and Other Little White Lies

Some powers are described as providing Defense against all attacks. It's usually summarized as +DEF(All), or just +DEF. There are many subtly different ways that powers like this might be created. All of them behave differently in various rare circumstances, and almost none of them actually protect against every single attack in the game.

  1. The power provides Defense against all tags. This is the most common implementation. A defensive power built this way applies against all attacks except completely untagged ones, such as those made by the Hamidon.

  2. The power provides Defense against all positional tags. These powers give no protection against attacks with no tags or with only delivery tags, like Mind Control attacks.

  3. The power provides Defense against all delivery tags. A power built this way offers no mitigation against untagged attacks or against attacks with only a positional tag. This includes most primarily Toxic damage attacks, like Hydra spit and Zombie vomit, and many non-damaging control powers like Web Grenade and Seeds of Confusion.

  4. The power provides a Base Defense bonus. This kind of Defense applies to all attacks, period. Very few powers have the pure "defense" defense type, but Personal Force Field is an example.

-Paragon Wiki

The reason Mids does not have a slot for toxic resistance is ...toxic damage is not tagged damage. More on that in the article I linked below.

Also of note there are several IO sets that have +DEF (toxic) as a primary or even secondary effect.

For more on Defense against Toxic Attacks...peruse the article here.
This article explains "tagged" damage etc.

Hope this helps.

RE: Toxic Defense?

Super Reflexes also has Defenses that are location based. So if a melee based toxic attack were to fire off, your Melee Defense would protect against it.

The problem is, Toxic is a damage type that was added in late, before it was a "typed" damage, it was "untyped" which means it was totally unresistable, which sucked and made Vahzilock even worse. So they decided to add it on to things like Healing Flames and Reconstruction rather than adding it onto the shields. I'm not sure why.
