PvE Blaster Build

Hello all!

I am currently downloading the game trial, and am planning on making a blaster. I am uncertain what type of sets/build I want though, and don't want to screw it up, and have to make an alt right off the bat. I know you should play what is fun, but kicking mob butt is fun to me. :D

I will be playing only PVE. I need a toon that can solo, but can also duo, and be an extremely valuable group player. I prefer killing mobs fast, but having some other abilities besides nuking is fun too, esp in groups. I accept death as a part of playing, but don't want it to be so frequent that it gets frustrating for me and the group. I will often be duoing with a scrapper.

I like the idea of ice primary, but it seems that fire build is simply more powerful. Not sure what secondary build should be. I like pretty graphics, but I'm a girl, so that's okay. Pink pompoms are lovely. I have no idea what the third thing some people have is... such as ice/ice/thermal? Is the secondary always more manipulation or is it the same stuff as the primary but less points to spend? True true newb here.

I need something that will kick butt while providing some play diversity from levels 1 - 50. Assuming 50 is the cap.

Thinking I will go science origin, and planning on being a hero. What server should I go with? I like active heavy servers, PVE only.

RE: PvE Blaster Build

Welcome to Gameamp!

Being a Blaster is all about taking down mobs quickly. Your best defence is your strong offense.

Since you a just starting out and already can accept debt as part of the Blaster life style I would go with a Fire/Fire Build. Fire is one of the best Blaster sets there is and it is very team friendly. Between the Damage Over Time (DOT) and Area of Effect (AoE) attacks you will have most mobs on their knees before they know what hit them.

A note about Fire Secondary: Fire has some Melee attacks that are good for when enemies get in close. Although they are handy I would avoid them at first. Using the hit and run tactic will save you numerous times. After you are more comfortable with your Blasters abilities I would work the Melee attacks in.

If you like busy servers I would start with Freedom or Virtue. These two are the most heavily populated Servers.

Be warned ahead of time Virtue is known as the "Roleplaying Server".

Good luck and let us know if we can help any other way!

RE: PvE Blaster Build

When I first started, I shot straight to blaster as well, I went with energy/energy and it was tons of fun for sure. I view that set as a great single target build, which is always useful as a boss killer or when solo. But I ended up settling on fire/devices for my most played blaster. Its an amazing solo set, not as good for teaming because of set up time for trip mine. Fire, as Phase said, is just supreme for damage and true blastery feel. If you are going pve, and want to be truly uber, I'd say either fire/fire or fire/ice for the soloability it provides. Definitely build a theme before rushing into a strong set, you'll get bored quicker without character progression, I can vouch for that.

RE: PvE Blaster Build

Thank you everyone for your replies! I ended up not being able to decide between ice for solo, and fire for the aoe, so I took both.

I took ice/energy and fire/mental. I was told the mental helps make the fire soloable. So far I like both, but think I prefer the fire. The mobs are always grouped and running after me anyway, might as well hit em all at once. Ice would seem to be better for groups.... if I can stop trying to run in and use the cone damages. lol

I just bought the game today, hoping all my patching is done! If so I can play a lil before work.

There are people on all the servers, usually, although I understand the meaning. Despite everything I hear here from Ampers who have NEVER really spent any time there, it's not some freak hangout. Virtue to me, having been there for closing in on 4 Years with most of my primary toons, is no different than anywhere else, just more people. As to being the Unofficial anything, guess the fact that it IS unofficial also means it may be less than accurate. I have a great time there and see no more Roleplaying than anywhere else, just a lot more people. I found Freedom to have a lot of PvPers, but that doesn't mean it's PvP only. When I take a trip it is to see the sites myself, otherwise I could just order a nice picture book.

RE: PvE Blaster Build

For a good PvE blaster build, Fire/Fire can be pretty devastating. It has a bunch of AoEs that can really kill. Fire/energy can be really good too. If you wanna go Ice primary, then it's not a bad idea, that can also be a really fun set, normally mixed with the energy secondary for more powerful Single Target atatcks. It really depends on if you'd rather be an AoE monster or a Single Target Killer.
