Blaster Powers

This is another of my simple guides to archetype’s power sets. As usual, I will give a short description of the type and a quick synopsis of each of the power sets right off the program, followed by my opinion of the set in red.

The blaster archetype (AT) is the long range damage dealer of the game. He, along with the scrapper, is designed to be the sword of the team. The blaster AT is a very low hit point type (squishy) that normally has to stay out of melee range of the bad guys, even though his secondary is strong melee attacks. Some people do build their toons to enhance the melee portion of the power sets and by adding in defensive powers from the power pool sets you can create a toon type popularly known as the blapper (blaster/scrapper), which can be effective in the melee mode. However, normally the blaster is the long range, high damage dealer. On to the powers.

Primary Power Sets

Archery
The ancient art of archery allows you to use a bow and arrow to great effect. This power set has a bonus to accuracy.
Pretty light in the damage department and slow animation, but good special attack types and accuracy bonus.

Assault Rifle
The assault rifle is a state-of-the-art piece of hardware. It is equipped to handle an impressive arsenal of munitions and firing modes. The assault rifle is also equipped witht eh latest targeting technology and is a very accurate weapon.
An impressive mix of attack types from area of effect attacks (AOE’s) to long range sniper shot, to a massive cone attack.

Electrical Blast
Electrical Blast endows you with ranged electrical attacks. Electrical attacks can drain foes endurance and can often halt their endurance recovery. This can be quite effective against higher level foes and bosses. Some powers can even transfer endurance back to you.
In my opinion fairly low damage rating (although others will disagree), endurance drain is ok, but rarely see it transfer back to me. Hold, pet and high powered targeted AOE attack are impressive.

Energy Blast
Energy Blast allows you to hurl bolts of energy at your foes, and can often send them flying with knock back.
Good range attacks with knock back effects. Includes good short range attacks, long range sniper and powerful AOE attack. Very effective power set for keeping the bad guys at a distance.

Fire Blast
Fire Blast allows you to blast fire at foes, with a tendency to set tehm ablaze for extended damage over time.
Good range attacks with fire damage over time (DOT), several AOE’s and snipe The king of AOE’s in the blaster power set. Can do high damage in large areas.

Ice Blast
Ice blast allows you to use the power of ice against your foes, with a tendancy to slow their attacks and movement.
Fair ranged attacks with slowing, holding and accuracy debuff effects, but no snipe. Good for slowing opponents and keeping them at bay while attacking. Somewhat controller like in the feel.

Sonic Attack
Sonic Attack allows you to use sound waves to damage and weaken your foes.
Good powerful short range attacks with damage resistance debuffs, sleep/disorient attacks and nova-type attack, but no snipe. Good for close range fighting. Debuffs are useful.

Secondary Power Sets

Devices
Devices are equipment you have constructed for use in combat. By using them strategically you can gain a great tactical advantage. Traps, non-lethal munitions, and demolitions are available in this power set.
Varied set of support attacks. Traps, holding/slowing attacks, stationary pet and stealth power. Very useful support powers and trap style attacks. Stealth without needing the concealment power pool set.

Energy Manipulation
Energy Manipulation allows you to channel energy to deliver deadly blows. These powers also help you focus your power to increase your own abilities
Powerful melee attacks with knock back. Power, range and accuracy boosting support powers. Very effective for melee attacks do to knock back effects.

Electricity Manipulation
Electricity Manipulation empowers you with various electrical melee and support powers. Electricity Manipulation powers can drain foes endurance and temporarily halt their endurance recovery
Very good melee attack groups with high damage and endurance effects. Lightning field makes an excellent melee damage dealer.

Fire Manipulation
Fire Manipulation allows you to surround yourself with various manifestations of fire and flames, assaulting nearby foes. Fire Manipulation powers tend to set foes ablaze for added damage over time.
Good damage attacks with DOT and AOE effects and endurance recovery power (consume).

Ice Manipulation
Ice Manipulation allows you to surround yourself with various manifestations of ice and cold, assaulting and freezing nearby foes. Ice Manipulation powers are known to slow opponents.
Good melee attacks, AOE holding and slowing powers to keep bad guys in place for attacks.

I am quite proud to say that I think the two are equally matched.
