Scrapper Powers

This is another of my simple guides to archetype’s power sets. As usual, I will give a short description of the type and a quick synopsis of each of the power sets right off the program, followed by my opinion of the set in red.

Scrappers are one of the two Archetypes (AT’s) that are the damage dealers of the game. Scrappers, along with blasters, are the sword of the game. The difference being scrappers are contact fighters. They are designed to get up close and in your face with the bad guys. Their damage is slightly below what the blaster can do, but they are not a Squishy (low hit point) toon. Although not anywhere near as tough as a tank, they are considerably higher than any other AT. And their damage is second only to a blaster or Kheldian (Peacebringer or Warshade, the epic AT’s you get at level 50) if even then. If you like getting up close and personal and opening up a can on the bad guys, then the scrapper is for you.

Primary Power Sets

Broadsword
Wield a Broad Sword and master a variety of powerful lethal attacks. Slower than a katana, the Broad Sword’s weight strikes with more force and damage. The broad sword can reduce an enemy’s defense, allowing other attacks to hit more reliably. The broad sword is a powerful melee weapon that has a bonus to accuracy. Like all scrappers, all broad sword attacks can sometimes land a critical hit for double damage.
Very powerful attacks, but slow animation. Has build-up and taunt in the power set, and accuracy bonus.

Claws
Claws are bones or blades that extend from your hands and cause lethal damage. The lightweight, natural feel of claws gives this power set a reduced endurance cost and faster attack rate than other scrapper melee sets. Like all scrappers, all claws attacks can sometimes land a critical hit for double damage.
Very fast and low end attacks, somewhat lower in damage, decent AOE attacks, taunt and two long range attacks.

Dark Melee
Dark Melee allows you to focus the powers of the netherworld to defeat your foes. The draining effects of most of these powers can reduce the targets accuracy. Like all scrappers, all dark melee attacks can sometimes land a critical hit for double damage.
Good damage melee attacks, with some controller–like drains and holds, as well as taunt.

Katana
Wield a katana and master a variety of powerful lethal attacks. A quick and elegant weapon, the katana is faster than a broad sword, and can reduce an enemy’s defense. The katana is a fine blade that always has a bonus to accuracy. Like all scrappers, all Katana attacks can sometimes land a critical hit for double damage.
Fast and accurate attacks with good damage, some powerful attacks at higher levels, with taunt and build-up.

Martial Arts
A compilation of various techniques from around the world, martial arts makes you a master in the art of hand to hand combat. Martial artists tend to be very accurate with their strikes. Like all scrappers, all Martial Arts attacks can sometimes land a critical hit for double damage.
Kicking attacks with good damage, some powerful attacks at higher levels, with taunt and build-up.

Spines
Spines protrude from your body and can deal damage in melee or at very short ranges. Spines are hollow and hold a neural toxin that deals additional toxic damage and can slow or immobilize your enemies. The toxin is cumulative, and multiple hits will affect a target more strongly. Very few foes have resistance to spine poison. Like all scrappers, all Spines attacks can sometimes land a critical hit for double damage.
Described as the ugliest power in the game (and it is), king of AOE’s in scrapper sets, also a long range, high powered attacks, also with taunt and build-up. Good damage over time (DOT) from toxins.

Secondary Power Sets

Dark Armor
Dark Armor allows you to tap into the powers of the netherworld for protection. Many dark armor powers drain your foes to strengthen you. Dark Armor offers very good resistance to negative energy damage, and is one of the only defensive sets that offer some resistance to Psionic damage. However it’s resistance to energy is weak and it offers no protection to knock back.
High resistance to secondary effects. Good shield powers, including the rare resistances to Psionic and toxic damage, good AOE damage power, some controller-like hold and drain powers, stealth without concealment power pool.

Invulnerability
Invulnerability gives you incredible abilities to resist damage and other effects. Its resistance to physical damage is superior, however, Invulnerability offer no protection from Psionics.
You take less damage during combat. Very high damage resistance, defense increase powers, hit point increase powers as well as a moment –of glory (MOG) type power, which drastically increases your defense for a short time.

Regeneration
Regeneration lets you regenerate more quickly from damage and effects. Regeneration offers no actual damage resistance, but your hit point regeneration can become so incredibly fast, that your wounds heal almost instantly. Those who posses this power set have little downtime.
You recover from damage faster. Endurance and hit points are recovered very fast, multiple heals and hit point increase power, moment of glory (MOG) power which drastically increases your defense for a short time.

Super Reflexes
Your Super Reflexes and acute senses allow you to react deftly to avoid danger. Regardless of what comes at you, super reflexes simply allow you to avoid the attack. The type of weapon or attack used against you in irrelevant. So swords, bullets, fire, energy, even Psionic Attacks can be avoided. Super Reflexes focuses on different techniques. Avoiding melee attacks is different than avoiding ranged attacks or even area-of-effect (AOE) attacks. Your weakness is your opponents accuracy.
You get hit less. High defense rated powers against all types of attacks, MOG type power.
