Why the guide?
So far I have had a lot of fun using the Consignment houses added in Issue 9 and I feel that the economy has breathed new life into the game. However I get a lot of tells from people in game asking how to use the Consignment UI correctly and how to price their goods at a reasonable sell price. So I thought that this looked like an issue that could do with addressing.
The UI
The basic UI for the Wentworth Consignment house looks as follows:
How to Sell
The spaces along the bottom are places that you can drag and drop items you wish to sell. For instance, if I wanted to sell a piece of Invention Salvage I would click on the 'salvage' tab above my powers and drag the aforementioned piece of salvage from my 'inventory' into a free slot on the consignment. As you level you will earn more consignment slots and salvage capacity (i.e. the amount of Invention Salvage that can be carried at any one time). More Invention Salvage capacity can also be earned through obtaining badges.
What price do I sell at?
Well this is the tricky part. Basically you have to look at the market as it stands and decide if you want money quickly or if you are prepared to wait and see if you can get a little more. To look at the prices that your item has sold for recently click the 'More' button:
This will show you the sales data for the object you are currently hovered over. The sales data can be a bit slow to respond. The trick for this is to double click the slot you wish to see the data for or alternatively to select a different slot and then click back onto the original slot. With a sell-able object placed in the slot and the 'More' button pressed something like the following should appear:
Now is the time to decide what you want to sell the object for. In the example above the last sale went for 100 and so did the sale before that. Because two consecutive sales went for the same price it is a fairly good bet that if I put the object on sale for 100 then I would get a purchase. However here is where the choice you made earlier comes in. If you are prepared to wait then you could push for a little more (but lets be realistic, push for too much and you probably won't sell) or you could just be a price taker follow the market and put your object on for the same or, if you really need the money fast, lower price. However be mindful of the price you place an object on the market at! You give greedy old Wentworth a 5% deposit on each item placed on the market. If you place a cheap item like an iron bar on the market for 25 million as a joke it won't be funny when you lose the 1.25 million deposit when you have to remove it to free up space after eons of it not selling! Yet assuming you have got a sensible price to enter the next stage would be to sell. To put the object on sale you need to enter the amount you wish to sell for in the box below:
Congratulations, you just placed an object on sale on the Market! If it sells a "get inf" button will appear on the slot.
Buying
Next we come on to how to buy an item from Wentworth. Here is where the UI truly comes into play. Firstly here are the points of interest highlighted:
It can be seen that the topmost point of interest is the place to enter the name of the item. Partial matches will show up so for instance if you know you want the Enhancement Recipe "Freebird" but you cannot remember the full name, simply typing "bird" will make it show up.
Directly to the right of that is the place to select what origin you wish to filter by. My character on screen is Technology, so if I were searching for Single Origin or Dual Origin Enhancements I would select Technology from the list. However for recipes and all Invention Enhancements there is no origin so this generally doesn't need to be changed.
Below is a tab labelled "For sale & Bidding" if you click this you can filter for the options; "for sale only", "bidding only" and "for sale and bidding". This is important to find out where the demand lies when selling and what is actually on the market when buying. "Bidding Only" will show objects for which there is a demand (i.e. someone placing a 'bid' stating they wish to buy it) but no seller (i.e. the item is not being sold). "For Sale Only" will show the opposite, this is used when buying so that the results of your search will only show objects that are actually available to buy at the time of the search. "for sale and bidding" is the default and is, for all intents and purposes unfiltered.
To the left of this is a level range tab. Here you can enter the minimum and maximum levels of an object you wish to buy. For instance if I knew I wanted level 45 only enhancements to show up I would set both filters to 45, for 45-50 the first would be 45 and the second 50. This is where a lot of people get confused because all costume recipes are level 1 (so that everyone can access them). So if you have changed the level range and then proceed to search for a costume piece it may not show up. To fix this ensure that the lower limit of the search is 1.
Beneath all of the above bubbles is a more specific drop down system. This is quite ingenious and works very fluidly. For instance if I wanted to buy a Melee invention Recipe I would click "Recipes" to open its sub tree and from there click "Melee Damage" to show all Melee recipes meeting my search criteria (level range etc). This can be seen below:
Lastly the giant bubble on the right is the results of your search. What I have there is the result of a default search: no criteria.
So how do I buy an item now I've found it?
Well that is the hard part over. Once the item you would like to purchase is on the screen you simply click it and enter the amount of Influence you wish to pay. If the item doesn't buy immediately don't worry, the system sometimes takes a little while to work. However the higher you are willing to pay the quicker the item will buy as more sellers demanded prices will be met. Here is an example of me bidding 500000 Influence for my found item:
If the bid is successful the item will be yours and "BOUGHT" will be labelled across the slot. Successful bids looks as follows, notice the different colour from selling slots, this is easier to identify than the text:
That's it, good luck guys!
Remember, when selling try to sell an item for a price that is quite like the price of the last item sold to increase success chances. The same goes with bidding except the higher you go the higher the success chance!
Good luck out there, with a little luck you can make millions!
