Welcome to Aurrius' guide to the Claws/Regeneration Scrapper!

This is my second guide, the first being Broadsword/Regeneration. The Regeneration part of this guide is mostly the same as my previous guide, because it’s, well, the same set and my opinions haven’t changed.

I will rate all powers from each power set from 1 to 5 and give an explanation of them, dive into the power pools, the ancillary pools and last but not least I’ll give you the build that I am currently using on my level 50 Claws/Regeneration/Body Mastery Scrapper named Vibroslash, on the EU Union server.

Note: The slotting in the build provided on the end of this guide is by no means the actual slotting order, I just prefer that order in my builder so that things aren’t as chaotic. ‘Damage, damage, damage, accuracy, accuracy, recharge’ looks a bit easier to me than ‘accuracy, damage, accuracy, damage, damage, recharge’. But that’s just me.

Whatever is said in this guide is based on my opinions and experiences with these power sets. There. So don’t start flaming me because ‘omg mog 1s g00d you n00b, y00 should take 1t’. It’s my opinion.

Introduction to the power sets
Claws is the primary power set in this guide. Claws has low cost, low recharge but most attacks don’t have as high damage as, for example, Katana. The special thing about Claws is that it has ranged attacks, melee attacks, some cones, AoE’s, lots of knockback… very diverse.
Regeneration is the secondary power set in this guide. Unlike most other defensive power sets, Regeneration focuses on bouncing back after being hit with full force, whereas most other sets focus on reducing the damage taken or completely avoiding it.

Claws

Swipe
Type: Click
Available: Level 1
Effect: Melee Minor damage (lethal)
Endurance cost: 2,91
Recharge: 1,7 seconds
Debion: Bad power. Most people really dislike it, and so do I. It deals very low damage and has an extremely quick recharge. You may use it to fill in the gaps in your early level attack chain, but for me, Strike and Slash did the job just fine.
Recommended slotting: 3xDamage, 2xAccuracy
Overall rating: 1

Strike
Type: Click
Available: Level 1
Effect: Melee Moderate damage (lethal)
Endurance cost: 4,16
Recharge: 3,2 seconds
Debion: The bread and butter of your later level attack chain, combined with Slash. Reasonable damage, low cost, fast recharge.
Recommended slotting: 3xDamage, 2xAccuracy
Overall rating: 4

Slash
Type: Click
Available: Level 2
Effect: Melee Moderate damage (lethal)
Endurance cost: 5,49
Recharge: 4,8 seconds
Debion: Great power. Together with Strike this’ll be the core of your attack chain. Good damage, low cost, good recharge. Lovely.
Recommended slotting: 3xDamage, 2xAccuracy
Overall rating: 4

Spin
Type: Click
Available: Level 6
Effect: Melee (PBAoE) Moderate damage
Endurance cost: 9,15
Recharge: 12,1 seconds
Debion: Your roundhouse attack. Good when being outnumbered – which you will be most of the times. Good damage.
Recommended slotting: 3xDamage, 2xAccuracy, 1xRecharge
Overall rating: 3

Follow Up
Type: Click
Available: Level 8
Effect: Melee Moderate damage (lethal), Self +37,5% damage/+10% accuracy
Endurance cost: 4,37
Recharge: 3 seconds
Debion: Claws gets Follow Up instead of Build Up, and although it’s a great power, it’s not as good as Build Up is. Instead of using this power to greatly increase your damage and accuracy for 10 seconds, you attack your foe with this power, and if the hit is successful, your damage and accuracy are slightly increased for 10 seconds. If you slot this for a bit of accuracy and two or three recharges, you can keep this power on permanently and that will increase your damage output by quite a lot. Good power, but not as good as Build Up.
Recommended slotting: 2xAccuracy, 2-3xRecharge
Overall rating: 4

Confront
Type: Click
Available: Level 12
Effect: Ranged, Foe Taunt
Endurance cost: --
Recharge: 3 seconds
Debion: A standard taunt. You shouldn’t be taking this, unless you want to be a tanking Scrapper. Which you are not, since you should take Regeneration as a secondary!
Recommended slotting: 1xAccuracy
Overall rating: 1

Focus
Type: Click
Available: Level 18
Effect: Ranged High damage (lethal), Foe Knockback
Endurance cost: 6,82
Recharge: 6,4 seconds
Debion: Best power you will ever get. Focus deals high damage, low cost, fast recharge, good accuracy, and most of all – it’s ranged! Take out those pesky fliers, those runners and use it to perma-knockback a tough Boss.
Recommended slotting: 3xDamage, 2xAccuracy, 1xRecharge Reduction
Overall rating: 5

Eviscerate
Type: Click
Available: Level 26
Effect: Melee (Cone) Superior damage (lethal), Foe Knock-up, Foe –DEF
Endurance cost: 8,38
Recharge: 8,84 seconds
Debion: Your awesomeness will take a huge leap here. Your highest damage attack. Although it’s supposed to be a cone attack, the cone is so small I would consider this a single target attack. Reasonable activation time, and a horribly cool animation. You jump up, perform a back flip and then slice the enemy into tiny pieces of ouch. Eviscerate has a greater chance to score a critical strike than the other Claws powers.
Recommended slotting: 3xDamage, 2xAccuracy, 1xRecharge Reduction
Overall rating: 5

Shockwave
Type: Click
Available: Level 32
Effect: Melee (Cone) Moderate damage (lethal), Foe Knockback
Endurance cost: 10,5
Recharge: 12,1 seconds
Debion: Shockwave is a strange power. You send out a burst of focused power which hits multiple enemies in a very wide cone in front of you. The damage is the same as Strike’s, but it hits multiple enemies, which is what Claws is partially about. It also has good knockback capability, and when used properly, you can easily drive a group of enemies into a corner with this, to slaughter them with your other AoE’s and cones. You can use Shockwave for damage (which I am doing now), or you can use it as a utility power, using it only to keep foes on their backs (which I did at first). Either way works fine, because you really already have enough powers.
Recommended slotting: 3xDamage, 2xAccuracy, 1xRecharge Reduction *or* 2xAccuracy, 2-3xRecharge
Overall rating: 4

Regeneration

Fast Healing
Type: Auto
Available: Level 1
Effect: +75% regeneration
Endurance Cost: --
Recharge: --
Debion: You have no choice but to take this. It’s a nice power, and can really reduce your downtime between fights.
Recommended slotting: 1-3xHeal
Overall rating: 3

Reconstruction
Type: Click
Available: Level 2
Effect: Self 25% heal, Res(toxic)
Endurance Cost: 10,4
Recharge: 60 seconds
Duration: 60 seconds
Debion: One of the best self heals in the game. Triple slot it for both heal and recharge reduction, and you’ll have a 50% heal every 30 seconds. Increases your survivability by a massive amount.
Recommended slotting: 3xHeal, 3xRecharge
Overall rating: 5

Quick Recovery
Type: Auto
Available: Level 4
Effect: +30% recovery
Endurance Cost: --
Recharge: --
Debion: Take it, love it. Stamina times two.
Recommended slotting: 3xEndurance Modification
Overall rating: 5

Dull Pain
Type: Click
Available: Level 10
Effect: Self +40% max HP, 40% heal
Endurance Cost: 10,4
Recharge: 360 seconds
Duration: 120 seconds
Debion: Although some people can go without it, I highly recommend you take it. It’s great for mitigating an alpha strike of any sort. Dull Pain will increase your maximum HP and also heal you in such way that you will have the same percentage of health with your new maximum HP as you did before.
Recommended slotting: 3xHeal, 3xRecharge
Overall rating: 4

Integration
Type: Toggle
Available: Level 16
Effect: Self +Res(Knockback, Disorient, Hold, Sleep, Immobilize), +150% regeneration
Endurance Cost: 0,26 endurance per second
Recharge: 10 seconds
Debion: As you noticed, this is your status resistance toggle. It also gives you a very good portion of regeneration. Take it, love it.
Recommended slotting: 3xHeal 1-2xEndurance Reduction (if you can afford the slots)
Overall rating: 4

Resilience
Type: Auto
Available: Level 20
Effect: Self +Res(Disorient, smashing, lethal, toxic)
Endurance Cost: --
Recharge: --
Debion: This is an auto power which gives you very minor resistance to smashing, lethal and toxic damage. The good thing about it is that it gives you resistance against Disorients, meaning that all Disorient effects on you will have their duration shortened by a huge amount. Example: if you use an Awaken, you will be Disoriented for about a second, instead of the usual 10 seconds, or whatever it is. This is a very debatable power. You probably won’t notice a difference if you don’t fight enemies with a lot of stuns, or if you don’t use Awakens. Only take it if you have spare power slots.
Recommended slotting: 1xResistance
Overall rating: 2

Instant Healing
Type: Click
Available: Level 28
Effect: Self +800% regeneration
Endurance Cost: 10,4
Recharge: 650 seconds
Duration: 90 seconds
Debion: Godmode. Most enemies won’t be able to hit through your massive regeneration, and many people consider this the godmode power of Regeneration, instead of Moment of Glory. Activate it in the middle of a tough battle, or right before that battle. Don’t use it right before dying, because it won’t save you from that. Most people slot this with 3xHeal, but since only 200% of the regeneration bonus is affected by enhancements, the difference between 800% regeneration or almost 1000% isn’t that large and not worth three slots for Healing in my opinion.
Recommended slotting: 3xRecharge
Overall rating: 5

Revive
Type: Click
Available: Level 35
Effect: Self resurrection, 75% heal, 50% endurance, 20 second debt protection
Endurance Cost: --
Recharge: 300 seconds
Debion: Debatable power, just like Resilience. If you plan on dying a lot, take it. If you don’t plan on dying, don’t take it, or leave it till your late 40’s like I did.
Recommended slotting: 1xRecharge Reduction/Heal
Overall rating: 1

Moment of Glory
Type: Click
Available: Level 38
Effect: Self +Res(All damage but psionics), +Def (All damage but psionics), +recovery, -HP, -regeneration
Endurance Cost: 2,6
Recharge: 1000 seconds
Duration: 195 seconds
Debion: The pinnacle of what Regeneration should NOT be. This power gives you ‘good’ defence and resistance (if slotted right), but it lowers your hit points to about 20% and makes you unable to regenerate health or heal. Some people love it, some don’t. I don’t. I found that enemies hit through it way too easily, and the damage resistance doesn’t help when you only have a couple of hundred hit points left.
Recommended slotting: 1xResistance, 1-3xRecharge Reduction, 1-3xDefence
Overall rating: 2

Power pools
Don’t worry, these are just my opinions. If you like a pool that I don’t, feel free to take it by any means.

Concealment
Although it can be nice to be able to stealth allies, or be stealthed yourself, I personally don’t like it and I don’t recommend it.

Fighting
Boxing and Kick are worthless, the +Res and +Def from Tough and Weave can be handy if you don’t think your survivability is high enough (for example, when you’re Regeneration like I suggested and you think you need more smashing/lethal resistance or defence). Fighting can increase your survivability by quite a bit, but I don’t think it’s worth the power slots.

Fitness
Recommended for any build, even for a Regeneration build. The +recovery for Stamina adds up nicely with Quick Recovery. And if you’re Broadsword, Dark Melee or any other endurance-heavy build, both Quick Recovery and Stamina are a must.

Flight
Me likey, but slow. Air Superiority is nice but Hover and Group Fly aren’t that good for Scrappers. Take Fly if you want to as your travel power.

Leadership
Can be useful for both PvE and PvP, with some extra damage (nice for allies), accuracy and perception. Don’t bother picking up Maneuvers or Vengeance, unless you do the Statesman’s Task Force each day and people die a lot. If you’re Regeneration, you can take the extra hit on your endurance with relative ease.

Leaping
Very nice travel power, and Combat Jumping gives you a little defence and a bit of extra jumping height/speed. Jump Kick isn’t worth a thing, and Acrobatics is handy if you don’t have knockback protection (basically, if you have Dark Armour).

Medicine
Only take it if you’re Invulnerability or Super Reflexes, because Regeneration and Dark Armour already have great self heals.

Presence
The first two powers are rather useless, a taunt and an AoE taunt, but if you really want to taunt, your primary already has one. Now, the third and fourth powers are the good ones. A single target fear and an AoE fear. Nine out of ten people don’t have resistance to fear, and neither do NPC’s. Intimidate or Invoke Panic can be handy, especially for PvP.

Speed
Super Speed is a decent travel power, very fast, though the lack of height bothers me. Hasten is a nice addition to all power set combinations.

Teleportation
My travel power of choice for a /Regeneration build with Quick Recovery and Stamina. Very fast, though a direct pain in the arse with lag. Recall Friend is very team-friendly. Teleport Foe can be handy for pulling, and Team Teleport is just… well, a waste of a power slot.

Ancillary pools
The only ancillary pool that I really like is Body Mastery, and thus it’s the only one I’ll dive into.

Conserve Power: Good if you have endurance issues, and it’s great against Malta Sappers or Carnie Ring Mistresses, or long battles where endurance can become an issue.
Slot it for 1-3xRecharge.
Focused Accuracy: Take it, love it. It’s quite heavy on the endurance, but the +perception and +accuracy make up for it.
Slot it for 3xEndurance, 3xToHit
Laser Beam Eyes: If you want another attack, take it. It’s a nice combination with Focus (from Claws) or Impale (Spines).
Slot it for 3xDamage, 2xAccuracy
Energy Torrent: Energy Torrent deals rather low damage, but it knocks enemies back and that’s its main purpose. Good combination with the Claws primary because you can easily keep foes on their backs permanently with some other powers, combined with this one.
Slot it for 1xEndurance, 2xAccuracy, 1-3xRecharge

Sample build

This is the build that my 50 Scrapper named Vibroslash is currently using. I never do PvP, only PvE, so this is mostly a PvE build.

Just because you asked for comments...

A fart on a windy day is wasted gas.

  Aurrius on 07/31/07 11:28

... I actually meant constructive comments about the build, really.

  Mech beta on 07/31/07 15:01

Never been interested in Scraps to much, because I never knew what to do. Claws I find amazingly cool, and now that I know what to do I will make one, and most likely have fun with it. Thank you Aurrius!

Oh and one more thing, you seem to have used the same deions from your broadsword/regeneration build in this one. Just kind pointing it out and sayin mayeb just make it a claws guide, or if you use different moves with your claws scrap....Stopping rambling now

Great Guide  BGH122 on 08/02/07 20:42

Good guide. I especially liked the fact that you included a hero builder code tag at the bottom, very useful for comparing builds. It is obvious a lot of work went into this so 5/5 from me!

  Aurrius on 08/04/07 01:01

Actually making a guide like this one doesn't take that much time, really.

I just copy the date of the powers (what they do exactly, cost, recharge et cetera). What takes time is all the coding and the deions.

Thankful  Satch'mo on 10/02/07 09:20

Im basicly new, and was struggling with what to do with my regen scrapper, Now I know.

This guide is extreamly helpful.=)

Thanks much!!!

It's a good combination, but wouldn't people just think you are trying to rip off Wolverine from the X-men?

That depends on what your concept is. If you have an Invulnerability/Super Strength Tanker, with Flight and the Energy Mastery pool for Laser Beam Eyes, will people think of you as a Superman rip-off?

  Solarix on 02/02/08 09:17

very good guide! just one thing, i think you forgot to mention the -defense from slash, which makes a great combo for -def, then follow up and spin.
