Have you ever opened your Super Group base editor and freaked out because you feel like you are in over your head? Have you sat there staring blankly at your screen while trying to build your very first base? Have you ever wondered how bases are structured and what the terms mean? Read on and find out! (It should be noted here that the gamer will need to have CoV installed on their system anmd associated with their CoH account, otherwise you do not have access to Super Group bases, even if you are the founding member of your Super Group.)
What is a Base Plot?
A Base Plot defines the amount of area a Super Group has to place various Base Rooms (see below). All Base Plots are required to have an Entry Room which members or guests can enter by using the various Base Portals located in the zones of City of Heroes or City of Villains (on a side note, if you have the Vetran Reward: Base Teleporter, you will appear in the entry room of your base when you use the power). Larger Base Plots can be purchased by using the Group's Prestige. Larger Base Plots provide more area for a Group to place Base Rooms. Larger Base Plots can also have the ability to hold a greater number of Base Items of a specific type. At this time there are two categories of Base Plots available to players. There are 10 Hidden Base Plots available, and there are seven Secure Base Plots available.
All Groups start with a Tiny Hidden Spot for free! Please note you will also start with only the requisite entry room for free; all other rooms will cost Prestige! The Tiny Hidden Spot is 8x8, and costs zero rent! Perfect for that start-up Super Group, or that small but well managed Super Group that does not need a huge base.

What is a Base Room?
By adding base rooms to base plots, a group can define the layout of their base. Each of the Base Rooms has a specific function and will only allow Base Items of specific types to be placed within them. For instance: you need to have an Energy Room if you want to have a Generator, and you must have a Control Room in order to generate Control. Both Energy and Control are necessary to build and run any of the cool toys in a Base. Without them, your Base is largely decorative.
Some rooms can house Defensive Items in addition to Energy, Control, Medical, Teleportation, or Work Table base items. Some rooms can also have backup batteries should the Base's main power sources become disabled during a PvP raid (a raid enabled base will be a separate guide).
All Base Rooms added to base must have a single grid space between them for the automatic placement of doorways by the Base Editor interface. If you are unable to place the room, it’s placement outline will be red. If it is placeable, the room placement outline will be blue.

What is a Base Item?
There are a variety of base items available that serve some function beyond decoration. Some are simply purchased with Prestige while others require more effort to acquire.
The limiting factor on the number of Base Items for most Base Plots is determined by the total values found from Base Rooms. For example: a Base Plot may indicate that it can contain an unlimited number of Teleport Base Items, but the largest Teleportation Room only allows eight Teleport Base Items. In this example, additional Teleportation Rooms can be added to a Base to exceed a Base Room's limitations, but the maximum number of Medical, Control, Energy, Battery, Storage, Workshop, Item of Power, Empowerment, and Anchor Base Items are determined by the values of the Base Plot.

I hope this helps, because I sure did learn this the hard way…trial and error. Good Gaming!
