With Issue 6 comes some very cool new temporary powers. The first that I was lucky enough to get is the Shivan Shard. Once activated, you'll call forth a Shivan of your very own to fight for you. Your pet can be healed and buffed, but he won't follow you out of or into missions or zones. Of course, this power doesn't come without a price. However, if you follow my directions, it won't take you very long to get it.
In order to start this venture, you must talk to the Scientist stationed directly outside of the transport helicopter in Bloody Bay. You can't miss her...She's wearing a scientist jacket and everything. When you speak to her, she tells you that she needs samples from the meteors that crashed down throughout the zone. Once you accept her mission, she gives you an Ore Extractor to collect the samples. There are 6 meteors, and you have to get a piece of each one. If you look at your Navigation screen, you'll see that there are icons for each sample. To collect a piece of a meteor, you simply have to stand near one and activate the extractor. The trick is that it's an interruptable power, so you can't complete the extraction if you're attacked during activation. The meteors are normally guarded by 3-4 Shivans of varying levels (I encountered numerous LTs and a single Boss). If you have a Concealment power like Superior Invisibility, Stealth, or Invisibility, then your task is simple. Otherwise, run in throwing fire bolts and slashing with short swords until the area is clear.
*Note - Once someone takes a sample from a meteor, it becomes inactive for approximately 30 seconds. You will not be able to extract a piece until the meteor re-activates.*
Once you've collected the 6 samples, you must refine them before you can return to the Scientist. In order to do so, you have to shut down a defense base and use the Ore Processor inside.

You'll soon find that this is no small task. It's also much easier to achieve with a team. I recommend having at least 3-4 members to ensure you shut down the base on the first try. Each base is outfitted with 4 large turrets placed around the main building and 4 mini pop-up turrets on top of the building itself. Destroy all 8, enter the base, and shut down the defenses at the system console. Once complete, walk around to the Ore Processor (located on the opposite side of the room), and refine your samples. Finally, return to the Scientist, and she'll reward you with the Shivan Shard.
Easy as pie. :)
Remember that the Shivan Shard can only be activated 5 times before it loses its charge. Afterward, you can simply repeat the process. Thank you for your time.
